I had an awful day, out for 2, bowled 3 overs for 19 and possibly cost the club an umpire.
Not sure if I should retire from the game now or wait to be banned...

Best day of the season so far for me. Brought on as 5th bowler, opener got 4 wickets but deserved more, other spinner deserved more than his 1, and our captain got a run out. My figures were 3.4-0-4-4, with a cheeky hat-trick to finish the innings off. First wicket was their opener in the 43rd over, bowled by one that kept horribly low, sufficiently low that I apologized for it! First of the hat-trick was caught long on, skipper took a great catch, second was a stumping and third was caught behind, which was good for our keeper as it was a horrific pitch to keep on. With the bat got 24* in our chase of 132, myself and the other spinner put on more than 60 for the 5th wicket, and I got to hit the winning runs with a square/cover drive for four, finished up with 5 4s and a few singles. Excellent win for us after the oppo chose to bat, so I believe we get the full 30 points and have bounced back from losing our unbeaten record so spectacularly last week!
Debut as Sunday captain tomorrow, a young team so not sure what to expect tbh but hopefully a good match all round!

Spotted a very nice Gray Nicolls Oblivion bat on Ebay earlier in the week and won with a bid of just £42. Arrived yesterday morning so stuck it in the kit bag and off I went. Nice facilities at our hosts so nipped off for a quick bit of net practice which was curtailed before the end of the first over as a wicket fell and I was in at No.3.

Opposition were using a new ball and one of the opening bowlers was getting bounce and late away swing that I found him almost unplayable. I found myself having to play at nearly everything as he was pitching the ball middle and middle/off but I simply didn't have an answer to that late movement. However the opposition's slip cordon were in somewhat benevolent mood and finally hung on to an edge at the 4th time of asking. Perhaps I should batted 2-3 yards out of my crease and actually did this very effectively in a match a few years ago but that was when trying to bat out for a draw. Anyhow he got a total of 4 wickets in his 2 spells, the last 2 both hit top of off-stump with absolute magic deliveries so at least I did get a bat on it !!

At the end of his 1st spell, he was replaced by an equally impressive 15 year old leg-spinner who bowled with superb control. I was now performing square leg umpiring duties and this young lad didn't bowl one bad ball in his 12 over spell and also picked up 4 wickets.

Opposition knocked it off relatively easily although none of our bowlers managed to put the ball in the right areas consistently. However I did take an absolute skier of a catch at wide mid off, it went up so far that I had time to get my apology in early (for dropping it) before it descended somehow into my clasp. Shocked silence all around and the departing batsman should consider himself the unluckiest man in Yorkshire this weekend.

Only our second loss of the season with a depleted squad. 112 in 35/45 of our overs is never enough. Second top scored with 22, dubious catch at gully but took the fielders word on that it carried. Pretty sure if it went for a tv review I'd have been given the benefit of the doubt! Two lovely straight drives over the bowlers head for 4 and a nice cover drive off of a decent chucker were included. Nearly bowled them out, 8 down when they eventually passed us. 3-18 off 9 overs and best figures for our side so shall take the positives where I can on a personal level.

Comfortable win yesterday put into bat by the opposition with plenty of cloud cover around and from right arm over the wicket the new ball swinging away from me and with one of the slips telling the bowler every over that's where to bowl to him after having heard it for the 6Th time I drove  the ball back past the bowler to the boundary then turned around and said that's right skip that's where to bowl to me much to the amusement of the wicket keeper and slips.

Played for my new club in Devon for the first time yesterday. Played for the 2nd XI and we were put into bat on a pitch that looked half decent and dry at least. Went in at number 3 and scratched around for possibly the worst 44 runs I have ever scored. Put on over 100 partnership but it was rather slow going, their bowlers bowled very well to be fair to them but I just couldn't get my timing right , ended up walking past a straight one and getting bowled. We ended up on 217-5 and unfortunately bowled very poorly and the oppo got off to a flyer (65 off 10overs) and they ended up chasing it down with a few  overs to spare. I Took 1-36 but I did enjoy my first game for my new club.

Would save a lot of time and I wouldn't have posted it in public so can't possibly get in trouble for that haha  ;)
