Lignum Mallets £70 - Oak Mallets £30

UK manufactured by a contact in the industry that i stumbled on recently.

I have been meaning to get a topic made for a while now. The Aldred topic jogged my memory, apologies to Aldred for undercutting on the price, I feel £70 is a fair price.

My mallet is 900g approx. Typically they come in around 700g.

I can provide these mallets with approx a 10 day turnaround for £70 with free delivery.



Note they can vary in colour quite a bit, i have seen others that are a fair bit lighter with areas of green running throughout.

I can also provide heavy duty Oak mallets which are far superior to the mallets sold from the cricket manufacturers. They come in around 500g and are £30 with free delivery.
 


Perfect for someone a little worried about damaging their willow with a lignum mallet.

Interesting that you put bat grips on your mallet! Never done that before!

The handles are so short on the Gray-Nicolls deluxe that we don't really need to, I guess...

Looking into getting one of these lignum mallets for myself to use, custom made with a short handle, like the GN deluxe.  I imagine it will shave about an hour off the knocking-in time, just a bit worried I will damage the bats the first few times I use it!

I've always put a few grips on a mallet, whether the handle is long or short. I do it for the shock absorption and non slip qualities I suppose. Mostly I just like the feel.

My lignum mallet has a very long handle which I love. Means I can get a lot of leverage for serious striking, or I can hold it closer to the head for more precise work.

Yes the first few goes with such a heavy mallet (I practiced on old/broken bats) saw me adapt my technique quite a bit, it can be very easy to damage the bat with a mallet like this, especially the edges/toe.

I'll take an Oak mallet looks a lot better than some off the shelf ones i've seen for sure.

A chap at our club puts grips on his mallet. Great idea, simple and very effective.

Paul, it will help reduce the repetitive strain you get in the wrist when you are knocking in all those bats you sell!

Have to say it looks very rude.

As a badger, I really want a lignum one. Not sure I can justify the £70 but I am interested in an Oak one, I lent my mallet to a mate and I think he used it to hammer nails or something as it's come back with lots of little dents on it.

I don't like the feel o the handles on the puma mallet so put a grip over it.  Now I use the handle as a place to keep all my bits of cut up grip!  Getting to the point where it's now too thick to hold...

Oaks are approx 500g, the Lignum ones can vary, i'm told mine is on the heavy side at just over 900g whereas most come in at about 700g.

How much time would each of them take off knocking a bat in in your opinion compared to a standard mallet?

Time is hard to say, approx a third less time spent i would say, the key thing is the effort required is greatly reduced. Your muscles/wrists need to adapt to wield something heavier, but once you are used to the feel, it takes far less effort to knock in a bat compared to a standard mallet.
