I've picked up a ricochet off a forum member, ill see how I get on with it and may splash out for next season. The Amplus looks a grouse bat .
Stuey, hope the Ricochet turns out ok. I had a look at one and really didn't like the amount of concaving. Similar to my SG (Indian) bats.... I've since had a few people tell me that Kookaburra outsource to SG so basically anything under players grade is a SG in Kookaburra clothing (I've got no scholarly source to quote so happy to be corrected).
Which current bats have a high middle? Also what are people's opinions of high middle bats?
A lot of current bats seem to have low middles, which doesn't suit my style. I hate bottom heavy bats as I like to cut and pull. Any recommendations as which bats to look for?
Beaver5, Paul Aldred also has a good video on bat middles/shapes on youtube.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2f2xHD4VyR4Paul talks about the actual 'middle' of a bat being irrelevant to the distribution of the timber (ie. High, mid or low middle) and that its just a ploy for bat makers to get a bigger customer base by having multiple middle options.
I was sceptical until I actually got one of Paul's bats. The Sovereign Gold that I've got is more of a middle to low but due to Paul's expertise in balancing the bat and having quality timber, it comes in at 2'9 fully dressed, but picks similar to one of my higher middled bats.
I've realised that I really like the 'higher middle' bats because 9 times out of 10, they pick up really well. What I've also found of late, is going to a more mid middle, but dropping down a few ounces also helps me maintain the 'feel' of pick up.
As for high middles, like a few have mentioned, the GM Icon is probably the front runner of the bigger brands in my opinion.
