I see your point, but reverse the thought and see it like this.

B3 will share (with a young person, no experience, just out of school) their secrets.
Teach them, let them get the brews on, supply the fags (does anyone smoke anymore?),

That person will get an education. It's not a job, it's an education where you get paid.

That is how I see it.

You get to chase sky paint, fairies, and other meaningful errands, and get to make bats. You might even get to snaffle a banger if you polish to bosses shoes to a high level of luste.

People do a degree, learn less, and drain their folks or get into debt, or even both!

If it's your dream job, you'd pretty much do it for free just to get in the industry. Weeds out the serious ones from those who just 'like the idea' of working in cricket.

Certainly can't fault what you're saying mate - after all I'm sure there would be a lot of people that would pay a great deal to learn what these apprentices will (I know I would), just a case of someone being lucky enough to be in a position to be able to do it!

i think this is a really interesting opportunity. personally i'm a bit too far down the line in my career to think about switching now, but imagine the possibilities. you might start off sanding down old bats but once you're in B3 you might have chance to show off your prowess at sales, marketing etc

And you'll probably be the first in another thread moaning how difficult the industry is to get into. This is a great opportunity.

Treat is a year as a very lightly paid intern. I worked for free at Fusion, gave out the metro every morning at 6 and worked at toys r us in the afternoon to raise enough money to get me to India where again I worked for free.

It was my dream. And I grabbed any opportunity with both hands, even if they meant working for free or even paying to learn/work

1 - you clearly don't know me that well, I've never been one to moan. I ask advice if unsure, then get on with it. If I'm not able to get into the industry then so be it. Life goes on, posting moaning messages on a forum won't help so why would I do it.

2 - so if I took the cut how would that wage pay my bills, put a roof over my head etc. it wouldn't.

3 - if nothing else this "lightly paid intern" position would result in "lightly starving ones self as they have no money!"

It's all well and good saying its a great opportunity, but for some of us it's not financially feasible. God knows I'd love to apply, but I also like having a roof over my head and that's more important.

I'm all for chasing dreams, but sometimes reality is too high a hurdle.

Plus costs of a car to get to the factory, food, living expenses, clothes etc etc? Safe to say without support no one can afford this, I'm not putting the opportunity down as its obviously a great chance to learn but would you take a job for �2.70 an hour? Honestly?

i think this is a job aimed at a school leaver, realistically anyone with a family or mortgage cant sustain it financially unless there is money supporting them from somewhere else.

i remember the YTS offer i got off Sheffield Wednesday .... nearly died when i saw it and went to college instead! I think it was �70 a week.

Totally agree this is aimed at a school leaver without many dependencies, but in my experience it is more than feasible to make this work.

I guess the other option then if you don't want to be paid to learn is you can always pay �9k a year, study for a few hours a week in a course you're not really into and come out without any job experience at the end of it.
