Sanga's Duck Bill shape
« on: June 25, 2014, 09:24:50 AM »

I'm sure this has been covered elsewhere - but I really like the 'duckbill' shape SS that Sanga has been using - these are usually the ones with minimal to zero concaving right? Is this what you guys call the Michael Clarke shape, or have I got muddled up?

Have any of you guys got one in this shape, and have you used it? If so, how is it going, do they pick up nicely?

Also, is this shape and the zero concaving limited to the higher end models, or are there some of the more reasonably costed models available in this shape?

Hi Fattus, I've used mine it two matches, and it goes very well! The pick up on them is superb, cannot complain about it at all! The one I got is from OLS, and is this one:

Here's the link to buy:

There are others like it as well:

And a slightly cheaper version:

Hope this helps!

Is that county a custom shape or is it just an old one with new stickers on? Used to love my old county bats

It's an Insignia with new stickers applied when it was refurbed. I no longer have it (too heavy) but it went very well.

County is in aus. It is owned by GN, but retailers don't seem to stick them much. The clipper looks like a bargain! http://www.gnsports.com.au/products/au/gray-nicolls/bats/county-bats

Here you go guys (see pictures attached) - these bats pick up beautifully, mid middle with spine running up the bat to elongate the middle and give the bat excellent balance. This bat pictured weighs 2.9 with 40mm edges and picks up like a 2.8.  We call it the MC profile

Good Luck

I had the insignia as a junior bat, the old stickers were so nice too. I'm sure County could knock one up easily enough

That's because they are now totally different companies. County in Australia is now part of GN. The English company is actually Hunts County Bats and not owned by any other bat manufacturer.

County UK and County Aus are different companies.

I can arrange a custom made to any shape from County for £165 in G1 willow, i'll even select the piece of wood myself if you like, i'm there at least once a week between Feb and September, less so through the Winter but they are only down the road, not far for me to go by request. The duck bill toe/Insignia shape is something we/they get a lot of requests for.

Brucie, the bat we did for you isn't too far away from that shape is it? Admittedly not as girthy as some of these Indian made examples, but I'm sure we are all well aware of the reasoning behind bigger/lighter bats coming out of the subcontinent.
