good question, I hadn't noticed any problems previously. mine just snapped with a jump in the air.

however with hindsight, there were a few signs, towards the end of my hockey playing days I got pains in what I thought were my calfs, but that was more likely my Achilles.

I also have odd tendons, my Achilles are "short" (thanks Mum and Dad, it is a hereditary thing) but oddly flexible.

you are most likely to bust an Achilles with a sudden movement.
tendonitis I think is different, but needs rest. if you are going to play, field where you are moving, so not slip/gully or keeper.
warm up carefully before you bat.

I have been fine, touch wood, since my opp.

I had Achilles problems. 3 or 4 sessions of ultrasound did the trick and a bit of calf stretching combined with rest. Not much helped before that but replacing footwear regularly was important. I use to wear through the heel and my pain was worse until I changed trainers.

Wore my sd special price Nike today.  Can only say wow,  so comfortable.  Even more so than my old asics. If you're still having issues I'd take a look at them.
