Best companies to approach for sponsorship
« on: July 15, 2014, 10:03:29 AM »

Second thread after my first one was so successful so thanks to everybody who contributed !

I am going to Melbourne this winter to play and coach at a club and I am trying to get a sponsor.  I play Minor counties Under 25 cricket here and I will be playing a grade cricket in Australia.  I coach to roughly 200 kids in the UK and many more than that number when I go over to Aus.  Can somebody give me a nudge towards an accommodating company that would like a some overseas exposure ?

Shark cricket have very generously offered me 20% discount and B3 have asked me along to the warehouse which I will do, but I was wondering if anybody knew of any small brands that may well be interested.

Cheer guys

I would bite the arm off from that B3 offer if I were you...

I have had two offers, one from Port Melbourne CC and another from Bonbeach Tangy CC, Bonbeach play below Port but there offer is a better one ! and involves more coaching so I am swayed that way atm !

Should have been half way there by now  :D

No one will give you "sponsorship" as such simply because there would be no direct benefit.

Most of the larger brands will give you discount off "factory price" which always seems to be a little steep anyway.

When I used to play county 2's, the best I was offered was 2 free bats and 50% off everything else.

Unless you can approach a really small company (try Neon, Vulcan, Island Cricket, Vanquish Cricket, Mars etc) you probably aren't going to get much for the reason stated above.

The benefits of sponsoring a player is what they're willing to do for the brand, not necessarily what level of cricket they play at (obviously this isn't the case for all).

It simply comes down to the company in question and what they're looking to achieve, it's very interesting to me when I see companies offering sponsorships to everyone, IMO it only damages the brand in the long run as no one will purchase the kit full price knowing one quick email will save them £100+ - they'll struggle to ever turn a good profit

I bought a fusion bat a few years ago that went well (still does). On the back of that purchase James has since sold 6 bats to guys at my club, plus the odd set of pads and gloves and a couple to other players in my league who had never heard of Fusion. He has also sold a bat to a player in OZ who played for us for a season.
I wasn't sponsored, but it's an example that a club player can sell you more kit, and get your name known in their league.

Yes I'm open to offers ;)
