I think whoever is trying to sell it is talking bull about having anything to do with d&p.

Well supposedly its the bloke who started D&P so that's a questionable statement!!

I didnt think it looked anywhere near a LE bat.
I do think someone is trying to take me for a ride on this one, trying to get rid of some old stock by labelling it an LE and selling it at a "discounted" price.

Doesn't look like "le" type willow. Any chance of a decent side profile shot?

Very much depends on the stickers....

I've never used a D&P so I wouldn't pay £200 for it.

With someone's sticker that I know produces great bats, then maybe I would...

The exact reason why the English bat market is F**ked and over priced.  That very same bat branded with the right stickers would easily fetch £200.00 and people would be happy to pay it.  The fact that it isn't branded with a big name, makes no difference to the willow what so ever

Ok serious question, Have we seen worse looking players and original models from bigger brands? Yes, especially a Players one comes to mind that was so horrific looking that I wouldn't take it even if they paid me. So can this be an LE? yes, should it be an LE? No.

Most important question is what are specs on it? it weighs 2.7 with grip? or naked? lets assume its 2.7 naked so about 2.9/2.10 with stickers and grip. if thats the dressed weight then it better be 70+mm spine and 45+mm edges for me to even consider it worth the money.

I think you're missing the point.

If it was branded with a name that I trusted to make a good bat, then I am paying for the brand, yes, but what does that mean?

Let's say I was a "Shark" user previously, and I'd had two or three. All had been excellent. This means that to me, a "Shark" means a bat that works for me, performs well and that I can rely on the fact that if I buy another, it will be pressed in such a way that, even though I can't tell the performance at purchase, I expect it to perform well when ready.

That's what brand means in the Cricket Bat world. We all know that bouncing a ball/using a mallet in a shop is not a reliable indicator of performance. There is therefore a level of trust involved, and that is what the brand provides. It says to you "If it bounces okay in the shop, there is a good balance of probabilities that it will be a good bat in my hands."

When you buy a brand you are forking out cash for goodwill as much as for willow.

I wasn't missing the point,

I've played a lot of cricket over my time, few years at county etc and I know for an absolute fact that brands play on the fact that their endorsement deals allow them to "up" their prices for mediocre willow.  Take an example:

A small, one man band might produce an absolute gun and market it at £175.00 (for arguments sake) and the very same bat, prepared in the same way but branded as "Spartan" or "adidas" will be on the market for double that.... same bat, same quality, same performance, different name.

I used to be sponsored by Hunts county and their bats were always second to none yet they struggle to shift top end bats because their brand is not synonymous with big household names FACT

Of course. The power of advertising. Welcome to the commercial sports brand world. It's no different to any other "product" related sale. You sell it for as much as you feel that you can as you are (in most cases) a company that wants to make money. A classic example, though, is Salix, who don't endorse players, yet charge extremely high prices for their bats. Why? Because they can, and because people who buy Salix keep going back because they trust the brand.

It comes back to the age old question "What's it worth?" and the answer is always "What you're prepared to pay". As I said, you aren't just buying a shaped bit of tree. You are paying for the likelihood that what you get will work in the way you want and in some cases, to "buy-in" to the brand because you think it offers you something (Spartan....).

Brand power is such, even if you put stickers of (say kook) on a plain bat with decent grains, the bats value increases instantly, especially when buying something online.

And IMHO, the OP is better off buying a "butterfly" from one of the forum sponsors for a much better price and reliable service/performace.
