For my clubmates, this falls into the same category as playing against anyone under the age of 16;

1. If you get out to them, you will never hear the end of it
2. If you destroy their bowling/bowl aggressively, you are a nasty bloke.

IMHO, I couldn't care less about their opinions. If the player, regardless of age or sex, is good enough to be playing against me - why would I change my game for any reason.

Cricketing Mantra

1. If they are batting, get them out (Like you would try to any other player)
2. If they are bowling, dominate their bowling (Like you would try to any other player)

I would not disrespect the player by treating them any differently - and have not done so in the past.

Think a few need to look at the standard you are playing. I think the women will be fine.

Bowled against a girl aged around 17 last season in a Sunday friendly she came out to bat at 10 with her team wanting around 140 from the last 10 overs to win. After she had faced around 9 balls I bowled her middle stump as we walked off the field she turned to me and said well bowled I already felt awful as i felt I should have bowl to allow her to bat the overs till the end of the match.

Treat any opposition, no matter what age,  sex or sexual orientation they are with the same level of respect.  They believe they are good enough to play at your level so why wouldn't you. 

The amount of casual sexism in this thread is quite astonishing!

One of the women who I played against was really attractive. Later, her massive West Indian boyfriend, who was the injured overseas, turned up to watch.

Our captain couldn't stop laughing as the youngsters took one look at him and immediately stopped any reference to a 'woman' playing against them.

We have a team in our league with a young female. She plays for Sussex and it quite easy on the eye. Most cautious 50 I've ever scored. 

Personally my level of respect and self-consciousness always seem to be higher playing against women and young colts - just as I would treat women and children differently in every day life to how I would treat grown men (language, attitudes, etc).

Batting was steady away,,, her sister was also a very good fielder.

Always found women's bowling to be naggingly slow
Very easy to try and over hit the ball

Forgot to say, Holly, Arrans sister,,was very easy on the eye

Thats why i started the thread, as I would class myself as a casual sexist...

I will treat them with respect, that was never an issue. Everyone has pretty much enforced own beliefs around the issue. I would say they will be quite good, Id still open the batting and bowling and captain if I was a front bum though...

I'm of the belief that you treat any batsman or bowler with respect, because sooner or later you'll come a cropper if you start to disrespect the opposition.

In our division we've faced two teams with a girl on their team, and both were ok cricketers. But the problem you sometimes see in attitude towards playing against (or with) girls, is the same attitude you see towards young kids and old guys that come on to bowl or go out to bat. I've seen it all too often when batsman's eyes light up when a young spinner/seam bowler comes on, or an older guy - only for them to get caught, bowled or stumped.

I'll give another example. There's a guy who is about 50 who plays for Torrisholme in the palace shield. If you'd never have faced him before, you wouldn't think much of him walking out to the crease. However, he scored 20,000 runs in league and cup games in Northern League (teams have pros), and played a significant amount games for Cumberland in the minor counties. So he's a damn good cricketer. But I heard a few comments from unaware teammates when he came out to bat. He soon shut them up.

So whether I face a woman or a guy, I'd treat them with respect because the game of cricket is about having the ability to hit a ball with a bat, or as a bowler get a batsman out. It's not like in rugby where you need to take down 6ft 4, 18 stone guys. In cricket it's about ability and hand eye coordination, and I've seen women that can bat (and bowl) just as well as men in amateur cricket.
