4-5 cm?!? How did you not notice that sooner?!  ;)

Sorry I just measured again and it's 2-3 cm, I'll correct the original post, I know it's negligible but I  got a bit of OCD going on.

That would make it 88mm in width, which is very very noticeable to the naked eye! :-[ IMO, if it's around 105mm-108mm, it's absolutely fine. Once it gets down to 104mm, it becomes quite visible, and probably still doesn't make a big difference physically, but psychologically I'm sure it can!

The 808 is a fantastic range, especially given the price points, really pleased to see positives about the gloves, slightly confused by the pad comments.

I'm not sure there are too many sub £50 pads out there with padded straps. I can't get my head round the sizing issue either. They are marketed as a more compact pad, and whilst it is true that most of GM's pads have increased in size recently (i am a mens in most brands but small mens GM OLE pads are probably slightly too big for my liking) the 808's do not follow this trend.

Thats just how i see it though, you've had a whole season wearing them so i of course take your comments on board.

Maybe I got unlucky with the pads, I got them in a package from Aswani with the gloves for a good price (think they are 2012/3 models so may be different for the 2014 range) so not complaining, just offering my opinions.

Yes older models were not as compact. The 2014 808's are/were a great pad in my opinion.

No problem mate, the forum is here to share our experiences/thoughts on kit :)

I had the same model as Busta and was highly impressed with them, did order small mens mind you. Still great value for money in my opinion  :)

This thread seems pretty good considering the number of similar ones popping up, plus there's some pretty good info in it already, I thought I'd bring it back up

Here's my contribution

Helmet

I used a Adidas adipower steel premiertek this season. Very comfortable and easy to get along with. My only complaint would be that it is a little too big for me (I got a small noggin). I wear a thin head band underneath and pull the chin strap tight so it doesn't flop around too much. It still moves a around a bit and needs adjusting every so often.
I missed a hook shot and got nailed on the top of the grill/peak by a quick this season. Suffered zero ill effects and was able to carry on as normal ( I did put the old hook shot back in the kit bag for the rest of that innings however). Well worth it just for that one incident.

Gloves

I used an old pair of kookaburra mayhem's for most of the season. Well worn in, comfy, and decent enough protection. Gotten hit a few times over the past 4 years and never had an issue so I'll keep using them.
I have a pair of mongoose premiums which are light and fairly comfy as well. I do find the leather tends to bunch up on the bat handle when using these. My biggest complaint with these gloves though is....I always seem to get out cheaply when wearing them. I wouldn't call them unlucky but for some reason I don't quite trust them yet.

Thigh Guards

I use Puma kinetic thigh guard with a SF triumph inner thigh guard. Perfect combination of protection and flexibility for me. The SF is so light it's almost like it's not there but the protection is still top notch. The puma thigh bad is nicely moulded by now and also does the job with no issues.

Pads

I have a pair of Puma Bionic 5000's from a PDC deal of the day sale last year. Awesome pads. Light with great protection. Perfect strap length for my skinny legs. These pads have quite an angled top hat though and it doesn't seem to want you standing up too straight while wearing them.
I bought a pair of green hammer pro pads from CSO for this season. They are the exact same shape and design of the Pumas...which is why I got them. We have played mostly T20 cricket at my club this year so we have worn our coloured gear for most games. As such these pads have gotten the most use. They have been excellent. The finishing on the pads aren't as good as the Pumas and they will probably not be as durable but...protection and comfort wise they suit me down to a T. They also don't have that angled top hat like the Pumas do.

Bats

Mongoose ToRQ super premium - got his bat last season and have had loads of issues with it. The willow is very soft and the bat has suffered damage due to facing cheap balls in the nets. At first I really want impressed with this bats ping at all.  Coming on the end of the season though the bat has started to open up and the middle seems to be more potent every time I use it.  It is a very light bat (2"8 ) and the pick up is a excellent. The face is full of awful looking cracks now but as long as it hits the ball well I'll keep a scuff sheet on and keep plugging away with it.

Puma Iridium 4000 - I'd like to call this bat an overly concaved toothpick but that wouldn't be fair. The bat was bought for me by my Dad so it's got high sentimental value. The bats weighs in at around 2.7 and the middle is decent when I can find it lol. I haven't used it too much as I really prefer to more full profile in my bats. I won't get rid of it though if for the sentimental reasons. This will probably be my net bat.

Affinity Carbine - heavier than I'm used to at 2"13.3 but still picks up fairly well and feels balanced in the hands. I only used it in the last game of the season and the middle is an absolute dream. Will be my match bat next year.

Shoes

I use an old pair of Adidas twenty22 yards turf shoes all rubber no spikes. These are about 3 seasons old and I have never had an issue with them. No slip grip even in the tall grass we sometimes play in and so comfortable you forget that you have them on. Might need upgrading next year as they are beginning to show their age but I don't know how I could get anything better then these to be honest.

Where to start, after a splurge at the end of last season and the start of this season here goes,

Helmet

Just the one and only Ayrtek acis in carbon, great helmet lightweight, loads of visibility and perfect for nets and some weekend games but mainly use a hat on a Sunday. 10/10

Pads

Kookaburra recoil 900's brought from sports direct for under £30 great pads and at that money who can complain, 8/10

New pads are Kookaburra impulse pads brought from the lads at vitas great great pads better the recoil's amazing fit and very comfy, only gripe is straps are quite long on the back leg. 9/10

Gloves

Had plenty this season, kookaburra impulse 950 gloves, really good gloves, but not for me so for sale on eBay, sorry for plug used twice in the nets but just not ideal for me. 8/10

Ayrtek elite gloves in green, brilliant gloves great fit and were amazing, key word were amazing had to bin them as I ripped the outside protection, gutted, 9/10

Grays x181 le, new match gloves these are class great thumb fit and really light and comfy using them in indoor cricket as I have some new ones, 10/10

Grays A61 le will be used next season as my match gloves almost the same exactly as the x181 and even better for fitting, 10/10

Thigh pads

Stratton fox inner and outer all I need to say is pure class end of, 10/10

Bats,

Where do I start,

Grays Oblivion e41 5star brought from vitas and sold online as it was just to light a pick up for me but was a stunning bat and very pingy, 8/10

H4l NV grade 1, stunner sounds like s gun going off when I hit the ball even in defence Matt makes a stunning bat and at great value as well, 9/10

BB hulk profile brought as I liked the look of one on the forum and wow amazingly big bat with a great pick up and when the ball is hit it stays hit amazing piece of willow, 9/10

Ihsan x5 grainy great looking bat with a very nice profile was being used as a net bat but now in the hands of a team mate who I know will enjoy it very much, 8/10

Shoes

Nike dominator outdoor spike great trainer shoe and very comfy better then my old aside ones for sure, 8/10

Nike dominator indoor trainers used for nets and obviously now playing indoor cricket great protection and very sturdy great trainer, 8/10

And I think that's it
