Matching kit- what do you think?
« on: September 22, 2014, 10:58:42 AM »

Hi all

Following on from a comment Neon made about people away from the forum not caring about matching kit, I wondered how many of us really care that much?

I never used to be bothered, but once I started buying my own kit I've been a bit of a tart in it must match!
When I had 2 different brands of bat in my bag, I'd use brandless pads and use gloves to match the bat. I now have 2 sets of kit where the brands (of items that will be on show) fully match!

So please answer the poll and comment away people  :)

I like my kit to match. But not necessarily in a normal way. Haha.

last year I went orange mad. Gloves and pads. Had a hint off orange bat grips were all orange and my nb shoes were orange. My helmet was blue, and my bats were whatever stickers I had on them, blue helmet.
Bats were b3 and gray nics softs with nb shoes. Ayrtek helmet.

Next year I've order gm 808 le gear. And it's yellow. So have got a yellow masuri and some yellow grips and sticker from b3 to match(b3 stickers only on b3 bats).
As I like the nb shoes km jot sure I'm gonna get them to match as they don't do yellow. And not keen on going elsewhere for shoes.

As you can tell, even if it's not by brand. I like to have some cohesion in the colour format.

My back up gear are gn prestige. All white so will match anything. Hopefully.

I'd love all my kit to match, but I'm too much of a tight (No Swearing Please) to actually spend decent money on making sure it all matches.

I know you like your kit to be matching colours mate, although I did think getting a yellow lid to go with the rest of your kit was going above and beyond with levels of dedication to the cause!  :)

Haha. More for comedy value. I have a black masuri that will see most action. But will where the yellow against the lively opposition to get some bites!!

Contemplated having the ayrtek paintend orange last year......

Thing is - I bought pads and gloves as a bundle and got some cash off.
Went back to my Kook R900 gloves though - sometimes worn in is better, as long as not worn out :)

So, my match kit last year was:

Masuri or club cap - navy
Kook R900 gloves, so blue and orange
GM Original pads - torquoise
Laver Private Bin - Red stickers
Adidas 22 Yds Lite - gold.

Not a matcher then :D

I've noticed that the amount of Slazenger on display is a good indicator of the standard of cricket you are playing.

Shame, it used to be my favourite brand.

Funny you should say that, I cannot recall playing with or against anyone using Slazenger in the league last year.
Fair bit on show against Sunday only sides though...  :-[

This is my big thing year after year.  I used to match the colour of my kit, usually blue, without worrying too much about brands, e.g.

2011 - Kook Ice bat, Bradbury pads, Kook Ice gloves
2012 - Woodstock bat (sky blue stickers), Woodstock pads (plain white), Kook Ice gloves
2013 - B3 bat (blue stickers) Kook Ice subzero pads (2nd hand off ebay - £20), Kook Ice gloves, Ayrtek

This year the problems started!  I moved to having to have the same softs, but couldn't find a match that suited me.  So after buying (and selling); Bubble pads (good pads, but couldn't get on with the gloves), Bubble gloves (HDF + didn't fit well), Pro issue recoil gloves (too loud) and GM top end gloves this year (not a great fit), I ended up in 2014 with; B3 bat (sky blue stickers), Ice pads and gloves as before!  The saving grace was that I'm getting real value for the £20 ebay pads, but they and the gloves are starting to get very worn.

2015 seems to be following the same issues - will repeat the sky blue B3 stickers post-refurb (Coventry City fan, sorry!), but looking for matching gloves and pads set.  So far I've discounted the entire 2015 Kook softs range.

I need to have sausage gloves, so the frontrunners at the mo are; B&S, Gray Nics Prestige range and Gray Nics Omega range.  Look forward to seeing the Puma and B3 softs and possibly even the M&H ones (won't buy the CK22 range due to the gloves).  Thing is, if I go for GN, I'll need to get the bag and duffle to match!  I justify this by telling myself that all cricketers, by the very nature of the sport, have to be a little OCD...

My head hurts a little...

I've never really cared about matching kit. I've had it on and off through the past 25 years, but the "most matching" I have was this year, when I went for matching gloves and pads with an HC bat. Love the gloves and pads but haven't used them with the bat yet. Ooops.

You must be quite good!

If a Slazenger ball's being used, go home!

My kit is kind of all over the shop,

Bat is a H4L NV green and silver and a BB with black decals
Gloves Gray nic's x181 purple and now A61 gloves which are red
Pads started with Kook recoil 900's Orange and now the Impulse 950's which are turquoise I'd say
Helmet Ayrtek carbon blue
So a bit of a rainbow going on I reckon

Using a blank bat (a bat without stickers, not the brand) gives you a bit more scope?

I'd wear all unbranded kit if I could. I don't like logos on my everyday clothes, either.
