Priorities for me
In my not so important opinion,
1. Kit must be 100% comfortable, no chafing, no squeaking, no distractions. Should be just you and the next ball. Fit is paramount, to the extent I wear 2 different brands of shoe for each foot (more on this later)
2. Must be in good working order - i dont want to worry about something failing. Playing with a split toe in a bat would distract me, same as a tatty grip.
3. I like my kit clean. From a psychological point of view I want to strike a balance of physical and mental comfort/ confidence. You want be confident, look confident, project it, and try to own the wicket. Matching kit is less important to me than the way I wear it. Scruffy kit works for some people, Jack Russell comes to mind, but not for me.
4. Matching kit comes last, but that's not to say I want it to clash, so prefer to keep colour schemes simple, black and white mostly. Minimal branding.
5. Finally I don't really want to attract sledging tho sometimes those guys seem more interested in talking trash than playing the game so as long as i feel confident i dont care what they say, it usually makes me think their heads are not in the game, so I perceive having the upper hand. That being said, I don't want anyone to notice my different shoes so have gone for 2 brands that use similar colours and styles. My problem is a broken toe, so I don't want them to realise my weakness. Still I feel more confident knowing my left big toe is protected.
