Priorities for me
In my not so important opinion,
1. Kit must be 100% comfortable, no chafing, no squeaking, no distractions. Should be just you and the next ball. Fit is paramount, to the extent I wear 2 different brands of shoe for each foot (more on this later)
2. Must be in good working order - i dont want to worry about something failing. Playing with a split toe in a bat would distract me, same as a tatty grip.
3. I like my kit clean. From a psychological point of view I want to strike a balance of physical and mental comfort/ confidence. You want be confident, look confident, project it, and try to own the wicket. Matching kit is less important to me than the way I wear it. Scruffy kit works for some people, Jack Russell comes to mind, but not for me.
4. Matching kit comes last, but that's not to say I want it to clash, so prefer to keep colour schemes simple, black and white mostly. Minimal branding.
5. Finally I don't really want to attract sledging tho sometimes those guys seem more interested in talking trash than playing the game so as long as i feel confident i dont care what they say, it usually makes me think their heads are not in the game, so I perceive having the upper hand. That being said, I don't want anyone to notice my different shoes so have gone for 2 brands that use similar colours and styles. My problem is a broken toe, so I don't want them to realise my weakness. Still I feel more confident knowing my left big toe is protected.

If however you are not sponsored by one of the "big brands" and come out with it all matching you look a tit! Especially if you are sh!te

Pha, next you're going to tell me that my fully matching GM gear with an AdiTek Raw lid aren't required for my 3 ball appearances at the end of a Sunday friendly facing a part time offie!  :-[

Not so much that my kit has to be matching brand, but if it is then it helps. My kit is generally quite plain, no loud colours or over the top logos, all simple designs and fairly plain. Brightest kit is either my green NB boots, nothing scary though, or GM red and white keeping gloves, or kook super greens  and this year 'players' keeping pads. Even my bags are plain and simple, Albion Duffle (all black) and after this weekend a B3 duffle. God I'm boring. Match bat was stripped of original stickers and replaced with minimilistic Ayrtek silver stickers

Why not just use one brand of shoe (The more protective one if it makes you feel more comfortable) and reduce the chance of men in white coats turning up?

There's comfort, then there's downright weird, and I'm sorry to say (to my mind anyway) this falls into the latter category.

On a side note I will now be looking for people wearing odd shoes and will sledge them relentlessly if I spot it!  :D

Not matched as yet!

Mainly due to being a tight asse......

My intention in 2015 is to match totally! Hope to find a good full deal post christmas!

Cant imagine many of you matching as most of you own 4+ bats!!

personally I think it is imperative to have matching Nike white and shoes, plus top of the range matching GM softs and then whatever bat you find in your bag...
if it is a players edition GM, then so much the better!

My feet ARE weird, multiple surgeries will do that. I've had opposition come up and look at my bat in the past, but never scrutinise my feet, and yet i have adopted the strategy at various times during periods of injury. I don't want to wear a heavier boot on both feet if I don't need to. There isn't much in it, but I love my Asics (less protected) and of course i'd prefer to not have to wear different shoes if my feet would allow. I think you may find the asymmetrical shoe situation more common than you realise. I read elsewhere on here that people have done it with gloves as well. Aero did the whole asymmetrical batting pad thing, not that that worked too great for them. In some situations you just have to prioritise, and I find physical discomfort harder to bear and more distracting than the banal jabbering of a nearby fielder, though ideally i would not want to have to put with either… hence my comment on picking kit with little branding and simple colour palettes, usually predominantly black and white. Still, you should definitely start looking.

Whilst you're looking at other player's footwear, another quick observation, 'sorry to say' they don't wear white coats anymore and you just missed world mental health day scarcely 3 days ago. Way to go WalkingWicket37! LOL  :D
World Mental Health Day - I suffer 365 days a year bud so didn't miss it really...

And the white coat thing is an expression, I didn't mean it literally!  ;)

I personally don't like matching gear, played a guy this season who was all in Slazenger, the whole kerbundle.

the stumps at there home ground were also Slazenger.... cue a lot of stick when he nicked off for nought.

Pads and gloves - match if possible.

Bat, boots, lid etc can be different.

Thigh pads shouldn't matter because no one can see them.

Was it decent Slaz gear? Or sports direct clearance stuff?

I think it's only got a really bad rep on here. In my experience it's only been me on my team that has mentioned sports direct equipment lol. No one else seemed bothered.

At the end of the day not everyone has the disposable income to be able to afford the top of the range gear, not the will/desire to spend that amount of money.
