inside of the bat pics,

rather dry as one could see, crack is part of the initial break that wasn't sealed as it could not be seen until now

very dry willow even with 2 oils. cant even see the penetration

thanks - this really shows how dry these bats are - the inside looks like sawdust already! So the likelihood of them breaking is high - it also shows how hard it is to over oil a bat - there is no evidence of oil here at all (which surely will protect the bat!)

I was hoping to see evidence of the compressed fibres of the willow from the pressing process - up to about 3-4mm deep - but that isn't really clear

Still always worth seeing what the inside of a cleft looks like.

Please don't view this as a criticism of the product - I have used a few bats from that source and the have all performed very well

Thanks buzz and 100% agree i am not surprised that it broke considering how dry it is. i disagree on the over oiling as a bat with a higher moisture content could yield a different result but certainly this bat could have had upwards of 5 oils but i only did 2.

TO answer your Tango, as James is not located in Australia and i am, he can only go on what pictures i send him and what I say.

His quote was that "if it was proper stuffed then i would have no issues of cutting it up" which i can understand even though it is strange.
He cant see that the ping had gone from the bat from his location but he can see that i have cut it up and turned it into fire wood.

Just as an idea...

How about using each of the separate parts of wood to do different amounts of oiling.  E.g. one with a single coat, the next with two, three, four and another soaked in oil old school style?

Just so we get a better idea of penetration.

Burn it too? As if you sticking it back together would make it useable!?

Correct boys i wasnt going to stick it back together but was interesting to see how EW burnt and especially a piece of willow that was so dry that struggled to burn.

There should be no need to prove the ping has gone. The bat has snapped in half and if it's happened within reasonable timeframe etc then there should be no issues in replacing it and no need to cut up and burn. Very odd request!

You could have just burnt it then, why bother with chopping and now that it is burnt are you supposed to send the ashes back. Were you to dance around the fire as part of the agreement also :-) and send a video.

This agreement sounds interesting and good on you to comply with it. My personal advice would be not to be a door mat next time.
