Any clubs have Wordpress websites?
« on: November 05, 2014, 02:58:52 PM »

I'm a web developer with a fair bit of Wordpress experience and had a bit of an idea about writing a cricket-specific plugin - but before I do I wanted to gauge if many people use Wordpress for their own club websites. I'm not talking about play-cricket type affairs but actually running your own site on your own domain.

This is just preliminary research and I know this is a narrow section of the market, but I just wanted to get a feel for it.

Thanks,

James

Yep. Me. Sort of. It's set up, trying to get people contributing.

What's your idea? [emoji2]

My previous club didnt see the point of a website as Play Cricket pretty much had all of the functionality they wanted. Still think there is a market for clubs who would want their own website

I use pitchero for one of my clubs, pretty good but the functionality isn't straightforward

I think play-cricket is (or was) a great database, but that was it.  Not very user friendly for visitors who didn't know their way round it.

With a website, you want to be reaching out to non-members for fundraising, pitch/clubhouse hire, etc.

in my professional opinion it's a complete mess and looks like it's been designed by a programmer with zero idea about interfaces!

My job is a web developer for the local government and our site is all on wordpress. I rate it highly. I reckon it would be excellent for a cricket website

Thanks Reds. Didn't know you were a web developer - how long have you been doing that for?

I'm thinking along the lines of a scorebook plugin that will produce averages and all that malarkey.

I run my clubs website through Wordpress too, and a few others sites, rate it very highly.

Been on the lookout for any cricket specific type plugins for a while

I built our uni cricket club page on Wordpress a couple of years ago, worked well as it's pretty simple to use so could hand it over to people with no web expertise without any problems. Added cricket plugins would be superb for it, would have used any for sure.

I use a hitssports based one for ours. It does a job but it is very basic.

I run a cricket based wordpress site, works quite well but if there was a plugin that enabled you to pull results through from playcricket I would be eternally grateful ! : )
