No more teas
« on: November 18, 2014, 06:46:12 PM »

Just heard that the East Sussex Cricket League is giving teams the option of not supplying teas anymore.
everyone just brings their own lunch and pays less in match fees.

I'd move leagues.

1 team suggested this at a league Agm, no other team even seconded it for it to go to vote.

Teas rule!

Why bother turning up if you don't get teas?
You could get run out without facing, or get a duck, as a batsman thans waste of a day.
If you only bowl a couple of overs and go for a load, day wasted.

Teas at half time, the only thing guaranteed (and often the best part of the game!)

Call me old fashioned but Teas are integral to playing the game at the weekend.

I know people are time and money sensitive but this tradition shouldn't die out...

I may be going against the grain but im in favour. Its a nightmare trying to finding people to do the teas, we have 4 sides and a Sunday side, in the first team we get a banquet because one of our younger players parents come to watch so they also do teas. But for the other teams the players do it, so you might as well bring your own. Also saves a lot on costs.

Oh my days this is the beginning of the end, once one league does it everyone will follow-we in middlesex have already had a proposal to 'scrap' teas
Over the years I can't honestly say my teammates and I have not had some right pedigree chum but once In a while a fixture like Shepperton CC comes up which makes up for all the inedible sandwiches thru the County.
If there is anyone from that club on here what a fantastic tea you get there.
I'm a batsmen but that day it was ' skip ive just caught a glimpse of teas I'll go 8 and won't be fielding much'
The cricket tea is part of the game surely?

I am disgusted by such a suggestion.

In fact I'm so upset by this, I'm off to make a sandwich!!!!

You occasionally get a tea not worth paying for but most clubs attempt to put on a decent spread!

A crap tea is better than no tea at all!

We had a couple of stinkers last season but the fact the other team had made an effort was enough (although the lack of cakeage one week was inexcusable!)

Just roughly what is the cost of a tea? Roughly. 5/10 per person?

Might as well all come ready changed, wear shorts, coloured shirts and boots, play for 2 x 45 minutes and call it football instead.  :(

A cricket tea is an integral part of the game as was a slice of orange when I played rugby.

God a feel old and grumpy tonight.

£50?? From the oppo a lone is the reason I'd vote to scrap them. The cost is ridiculous for what you actually get. If both clubs pay half (so in this case 50), then you'd expect 100 quids worth, otherwise you are charging them for tea and they aren't getting 50's worth.

I say bin it myself, save time and money.

You've clearly never had a decent tea, £50 is a bargain for some of the teas we churn out, and we've had some where £5 each seemed like a steal!
