You've clearly never had a decent tea, £50 is a bargain for some of the teas we churn out, and we've had some where £5 each seemed like a steal!

I've had the range thanks, from substandard few crusty sarnies, tesco readymades to full cooked teas. £50 quid per team is too much.

40 quid per team a tea in our league (set by league committee)

So that gets 11 players a scorer and 1 ump a team. 13 into 40 is 3.07 each.

Not many places to get tea for that much these days. Well worth it imo

IF it's a really good hot tea, with copious amounts etc then yes. However, I suspect of you took,20 clubs at random.. Most don't have hot food etc.. They are bog standard sarnies, cakes etc.. 80 quids worth?? Not on your nelly. I like good teas and if most were actually value of be for them, however having done the thirds tea this year for them I've seen what you can do and how little it actually costs.. Even hot stuff is cheap tbh.l chips, nuggets, pizza etc are cheap as

Where did £80 come from?
We charge £50 to the oppo to cover teas, pitch, facilities etc.

as for providing hot teas, we don't have the facilities to do it at every ground, so the sarnies, cake, cold pizza, cake, sausage rolls, cake, crisps, cake, other nibly bits (indian goes down well) and cake is a winning formula.

But it's a charge for teas isn't it? Not for the ground etc? (£80 was by saying if you charge £40 to the oppo then your team should pay £40 so that's £80 to the teas..

Believe me, I'm not actually anti tea as its nice to have the little social in the middle of the game BUT the prices teams charge is silly and most aren't worth it. Hence, overall I'd vote to scrap them. I will say that should that happen the first thing I'd push my club to do is 'free' food for our teams post match to make up for it.

I didn't read the post about £40 each properly... haha  :-[
We charge £50 to the opposition at our club to cover everything, with the actual tea budget £40-45 (depending if you need to get milk, sugar, squash etc.) so our match fees go towards the pitch and whatnot.

Knowing what I can produce for £40 an £80 tea budget should be a banquet for between innings! (Or at least not consist of everything in the supermarket value range...)

I'm mentally traumatised at the thought some mealy-mouthed bean counters are even considering this idea, let alone propose it as some kind of solution to enhance cricket.
Such people inhabit a grey, desolate wasteland bereft of joy and imagination. They are not cricketers.
I need a lie-down.

Having made many a tea over the years having captained sat and Sunday sides you can make a perfectly good tea for 26 people ( 22 players, 2 umpires and scoreres) for £40.

8 fresh begets £7
80 frozen sausage rolls £5
Packs of Ham,cheese,chicken etc £7
Fruit £6
Crisps £3 multi packs
Cakes £7
Squash, milk, tea bags £5

From that lot at any supermarket its a decent lunch. Or you can make shepherds pie. Lasagne etc for that amount easy enough. Main thing is to have a kitchen to cook hot stuff and prepare in. We have one person per week who spends £40 which is what the league allow you to charge and then brings to club. We get to home games at 12pm so have plenty of time to prepare tea and warm up etc.

Like has been said cricket tea is a key part. Not just for food but some of the best banter I have been involved in and heard has been round a cricket tea table.

As a fat lad I find this news very disturbing.

What would you do if you played away at a team who had chosen not to do teas when you played them at home? Just make your own team something? I assume if the home team has chosen to provide tea the away team is obliged to pay for them and cannot just turn up and say no thanks?

Most of the  clubs in my current league have a bar and tea room so teas are always brilliant and  under 3quid.

This was a problem in my previous  league. Clubs  were losing money because they were not selling enough. Setting a minimum buy didn't  get majority  vote. People had no interest  in doing tea as they could go all out and don't  sell any. Many players will bring food from home or go to kfc mcd etc. I would happily  vote  for scraping teas in that league. With many clubs without  running water I think  hygiene  was a major issue as well. So I can see where this proposal  is coming from, if the clubs don't  want to do teas let them be.

Our league doesn't charge the oppo as we play each other home and away so you cover your own costs. We pay our 1st team tea lady £60. Our local rivals use an outside caterer and pay £100 and are getting ripped off. I open the batting so never get much of a tea anyway as either batting or fielding.

We have a full on kitchen and catering, so our teas include freshly cooked pizza, chicken nuggets, sausage rolls, etc. So we have no problem paying for tea and neither do the opposition!
