I'm the one man James Taylor fan club, I saw him hit a ton on the telly in a one dayer for Notts just after he moved there and he amazed me. I can't think of another English batsman who's got such a 360 degree hitting area, including Buttler and Morgan. In this innings I watched, when he was kicking on towards the end, he was taking a step out towards square leg during the bowler's stride, causing the bowler to drag it away from him to outside off, before taking two full steps back towards point while the ball was in the air and murdering it into the stands over extra cover, and then next ball doing the same thing to a shorter delivery and putting it for four through square leg, and all whilst making it look like he had all the time in the world to do so.
I can't believe it's not mentioned more often that he has this ability to hit such an array of shots, like McCullum or De Villiers, but English and 24! I have no idea about what someone with a talent like this needs to develop their game, but I hope that's what England are doing, it's always written about as - he hasn't been able to force his way into the team - and I know his record on paper hasn't made a bulletproof case for selection yet, but I hope the reason he's being kept elswhere is that someone does know what he needs and he's eventually going to come and do at the international level what he can do at the domestic level, I'd love to see a batsman like that playing for England. The way I'm imagining it though, seems slightly too good to be true and I'm sure they'll either find a personality flaw that makes him "incompatible with the dressing room culture" or get Goochy to train him to be a stodgy accumulator with a strike rate of 40.
