James Taylor
« on: December 05, 2014, 04:50:42 PM »

I'm the one man James Taylor fan club, I saw him hit a ton on the telly in a one dayer for Notts just after he moved there and he amazed me. I can't think of another English batsman who's got such a 360 degree hitting area, including Buttler and Morgan. In this innings I watched, when he was kicking on towards the end, he was taking a step out towards square leg during the bowler's stride, causing the bowler to drag it away from him to outside off, before taking two full steps back towards point while the ball was in the air and murdering it into the stands over extra cover, and then next ball doing the same thing to a shorter delivery and putting it for four through square leg, and all whilst making it look like he had all the time in the world to do so.

I can't believe it's not mentioned more often that he has this ability to hit such an array of shots, like McCullum or De Villiers, but English and 24! I have no idea about what someone with a talent like this needs to develop their game, but I hope that's what England are doing, it's always written about as - he hasn't been able to force his way into the team - and I know his record on paper hasn't made a bulletproof case for selection yet, but I hope the reason he's being kept elswhere is that someone does know what he needs and he's eventually going to come and do at the international level what he can do at the domestic level, I'd love to see a batsman like that playing for England. The way I'm imagining it though, seems slightly too good to be true and I'm sure they'll either find a personality flaw that makes him "incompatible with the dressing room culture" or get Goochy to train him to be a stodgy accumulator with a strike rate of 40.

He Is a brilliant batsman. I saw him complete his century on the last ball of one of the league matches. I hope he does well against Sri Lanka. The World Cup would be so much fun to watch with James Taylor in form.

I cant get the reasoning for not playing him more, he was bloodied against the strongest team in the world when SA were touring, certainly didnt let himself down compared to several I could name. He has consistently scored stacks for Notts and the Lions.
If his height is the factor that's ridiculous. Its that aspect that enables him to be different from other batsmen and play alternative shots to certain lengths. Mitch Johnson's bouncer barrage in the ashes for example would've sailed miles over his head. The bowler is therefore forced to adjust his length and consequentially becomes less consistent.

Class act, top bloke, deserves a place in the ODI squad over the other more popular mainstream picks IMO.

he is going to get a go at 3 on Sunday.

I would love to see him and Hales smashing the ball to all parts.

I don't think they've announced yet, if they do I think they'll need to post 450 to get rid of cook before the world cup.

Other potential option would be Root/Morgan at 3 (Like David LLoyd said I'm like to see him there for a game as it gives him an ideal opportunity to find that form) and Taylor at 4 instead. Or they'll just bring in Bell and screw it all up...

All I know for sure is that Cook being out has actually excited me a hell of a load more about the game and looking forward to Englands batting which is pretty rare at the moment! Not really expecting much more but there's a chance to be impressed.

I agree that would be ridiculous though that seemed to be KP's objection which says it all really. The Mighty Taylor is a whole inch taller than The Little Master!

Dunno. Think Hales is gonna miss out of the next one when Cook is back.

I hope they retain Hales to open, he needs to be given a run and told your role is to get us going, go after the bowling. Sometimes it wont come off, but he cant be dropped for that. They must keep with him.

they won't drop Taylor and his superb innings, Englands selection is all mixed up  but even they would not get it that wrong
Stokes has done nothing we only need woakes out of the pair of them, and Tredwell has got to play

I hope Hales get's another chance on Wednesday and Cook sits that one out but I think Cook will come back

but there's no way Taylor is getting dropped

They could give stokes the chop and play Cook. Assuming Ali does a decent job as 4th bowler, why do we need Root/Ravi Bop & Stokes to bowl 10 overs? I would personally recall Tredders or get Rashid involved.
