Yes looks like the average run rate has moved up from 3 per over to 4 per over these days

I'd suggest it reflects the quality or lack of the two bowling attacks on offer. Australia are shorn of two bowlers in Harris and Siddle, both of whom are miserly. West Indies haven't had a decent bowler since Courteney Walsh and Curtly Ambrose.

Against the Windies I'd like to think we'd get close, no chance against Australia no matter what attack they have, we'll be all out by the end of Mitch Johnson's first spell.

Roach hobbled of injured today though.

Add the other West Indian bowler were poor, and Australia had 3 injured quicks. I'm not suprised there was high scoring today.

agree with the guys, run rates have risen due to more docile wickets, smaller boundaries and less quality bowlers. Throw back in mcgrath, warne, ambrose, donald etc, lengthen the boundaries again and liven up the wickets a bit and those run rates and avg's would come down a fair bit. I know I dislike biffing but I suppose it depends what you think test matches are for, are they supposed to be a run fest or a test of said batsmens technique, mentality, fitness, patience etc.. I don't think currently in my opinion we are truly seeing batsmen tested (excluding mismatches like steyn vs an ireland batsmen, johnson vs any englishman :) )
