out of interest, what's his Test record like?

6 tests - 21 wickets @ 40

Point being, if run rates are increasing, surely this plays into Narine's hands?...

yes and no. While batsmen are looking to hit, they can also respect the good balls.. so if he's bowling 4 good ones but 2 loose ones an over as he's not got the consistency to bowl in a test match then he's gonna get picked off. Anyway, there are some good bowlers around but not as many.

Narine's banned with an illegal action.

He's no great shakes anyway averages 40 in Tests

He's not banned. He's been withdrawn from international cricket by West Indies so he can play in the World Cup. Even if he gets called for chucking during the WC, he can still play all the games.
Believe it's tactical

Quite sure he's not banned? Just not playing through his own/WICB choice?

Please tell me you didn't really just judge him on his first 6 games of test cricket as well  :-[.

He's not banned, he was reported and removed form the champions league. But that doesn't count towards internationals, other forms.

West Indies decided to withdraw him from everything else so he's not banned when the World Cup starts.

Quite genius and tactical.

He was called twice during the CLT20, he's in India having remedial work done on his action.

If called again, it's a 1 year suspension

CLT20 is run under the approval of the ICC.
Narine's free to play in the IPL, but can't play for T&T

I was run under the impression that you could only be called and sanctioned/warned in international cricket and its separate from any domestic league (of which I would assume the CL is included) rules/suspensions. Could be wrong though.

This report says otherwise

http://www.espncricinfo.com/champions-league-twenty20-2014/content/story/786857.html

Specifically the bit that says

Quote
The bowling ban will not affect his West Indies duties, though - it is confined only to the Champions League T20 and other BCCI-organised tournaments, including the IPL.

Actually @Gerry SA Narine has been called up for a training camp with Trinidad, for the Super50 tournament which starts in January. He's been recalled for international duty but is free to play regionally/domestically. And his test records are not great, simply because while he is a remarkable T20 and 50 over bowler, he's not very penetrative. Simply put, in limited overs batsmen have to attack him and because of his variations, he gets buckets load of wickets, but in tests batsmen tend to be more patient and as a result he is not very "influenecial".

Roach is and has not been the same bowler he once was before his return from injury, and actually it has been Jerome Taylor who was the pick of the bowlers during the WI past few series. Cottrell seems to be an exciting prospect but it's a bit too soon to start to pin hopes on him.

Guess you've never heard of Kemar Roach then.....

Oh yes, sorry I forgot about Kemar Roach winning bucket loads of games as a bowling attack for the West Indies, so much so I heard they changed the rules so that he can bowl all day from both ends.

I said the quality of the attack as a whole. Kemar is decent but he's certainly no Walsh or Ambrose.

two tests on different continens and two teams scoring well over 300 in a days test, is this now the new level of test cricket

Haven't the Aussies been scoring at that for years now ?  I seem to remember Hayden et al doing this wherever they went. There again, it was a formidable line up and only one country doing it, but showed others the way forward.
