2x Bespoke B3 Bats
« on: December 23, 2014, 02:11:53 PM »

So back in August I ordered a couple of bats. Massive thanks to Dave who sent me pictures of clefts to choose from. To be honest I was more interested in weight as opposed to looks. Been down the good looking route for many years. The plan was to have my match bat copied and design my own bespoke bat. For some reason I changed my mind and had them both made to the same design. The cleft weights were 358 and 363.

Do my specs were for the bat to have a low middle, maximum spine height, with the spine running from toe to shoulder, with minimal concaving and a thick handle.

Here are the bats

The bats came in lighter than I was expecting. They were meant to be 2-10 1/2 and 2-11. They came in at 2-10 and 2-10 1/2, the multi grainer has around 25 grains and is all heartwood and was the 358 cleft. Not usually a heartwood fan, well Im usually in disgust at them but this actually looks good, probably as its all dark wood. Both bounce a ball extremely well. I've tried knocking in the heavier bat but seems to be un dentable, even with my m&h mallet.

The finish of the bats are very good. Not sure what they use but I'm thinking a wax of some sort. the heavier bat has a smaller spine height. Other than they are pretty much identical. My only gripe with the service/sale was no bat covers. I had a previous 2nd hand B3 and that had one so I presumed these would of had one as well.

Anyway, big thanks to Dave and the Dr.

Make sure you pay loads of attention to the edges. Mine is very well knocked in the centre from the factory, and I rolled and knocked the edges and still managed a compression crack. Suspect a lot more work is needed.

Well Tim's is a definite cannon, it was a shame was there when his edge went.. not a reflection on B3 at all. from all the evidence i have seen (including these pics) they turn out some loverly crickets paddles!

Yep I had seen your post. I think I'll put some edging tape down the sides and leave the face.

Spent the last couple of hrs knocking the other bat in and I have a little surface crack around 1cm on the edge. Looks to be only a surface crack so will i need to glue this or just put edging tape on and carry on?

Bit of pva and a clamp will sort that out no problem, although you may want to tape the edge anyway.

You could leave it, but with a bat that looks as nice as that one I'd want to keep it as nice as possible :)

You could also sand it out.

I reckon that would work too. It's not too bad at all

I would leave some PVA sat on top of that crack for a while and allow it to soak in, or if it is a very small/shallow crack i might even dribble some superglue into the crack and press it closed with my fingers and hold for a while (be prepared to lose a little bit of skin!)

Once sealed sand to a neat finish using some fine sandpaper.

Had one of them on my SS Yuvi while knocking in, bit of glue and sanding and it was fine.
It's merely cosmetic but I was a tart about it so tried to sort it lol
