New spikes advice
« on: January 11, 2015, 01:27:46 PM »

Hi Guy,

Just looking for some new spikes this year. I've seen some New Balance CK4030 and Nike Vector but just wondering which ones are the most comfortable or any other spikes you would recommend.

Thanks  :D

I'd put my vote in for spiking a pair of trainers

I've always been an Asics user, their higher end models are like trainers with spikes anyway!

Very tempted to get a pair of Nikes though  :)

I've got a set of the new Adidas Howzat full spikes from Jake at Vitas, these are the entry model but the ones a lot of the pro's use so I'm told.

From my point of view I've only tried them on to check size etc but they seem for the few minutes I've worn them to have a very soft feel to them. They are also great value for a full spike with some toe protection for batting.

In my experience puma are always good. Try them on before as they usually come up 1/2 smaller I find

I got a set of the 2014 NB 4030 spikes from allrounder last week. They are much more comfortable than the asics ones I used last season

They were definitely less than 50 quid, think it was about 47? They had quite a few sizes still from last years stock in both the blue and orange.

Note: I'm normally a size 9

Last season I had a pair of Nike Lunar Dominate (size 9), which split after one or two matches. After a refund I then replaced them with a pair of Adidas 2014 Adipower Vector. I brought the Adidas in a size 10, due to the US/UK sizing. I found them to be slightly too big and wished that a 9.5 had been available (they were out of stock everywhere). They also don't look as good in the flesh (i.e. close up), as they're very plastic looking IMO.

I also tried some New Balance CK4020 Turf and found the size 9.5 were too narrow.

Because of my poor fitting Adidas, I've picked up a pair of Asics Gel Advance 5 in the PD sale (size 9.5). I haven't worn them in a game yet, but they're very light and comfy.

My advice would be that Adidas and New Balance sizes are a bit on the small size. Also that Asics and New Balance are on the narrow side.

Depends what you do. Addidas for bowling if you wear hard on your feet and Asics for fielding
