Re the root picture. Is there ton branding covered up?

Could just be a bad tape repair job but it does look dodgy.

My punt is GM don't think the profile will work for the average punter. Professional cricketers hit alot more out of the middle than the average clubie. Perhaps the duckbill was spined up to give a bit more response lower down.

Alternatively GM don't know Root is using a stickered up Ton and will be having words!.

Still using the duck bill toe, personally if I was buying a Joe Root edition I'd want the exact shape and size to what he uses. A little crappy of GM to sell it as a JR edition

I would bet my bottom dollar that Joe Root is not using a GM bat looking at the tape position on there. We all know a large volume of pro's don't use the bats from there sponsor. Especially international pro's they go to most continents in a year and can get best from UK, Asia, Australia, South Africa or what ever so they will always be offered, given or pay for bats that take there fancy, he'll if we all do it why wouldn't a pro.

If a company wanted them to only use their bats then they shouldn't give out stickers so they can go and do this surely?

yes, why give out stickers? GM have always maintained their Pro's only use their bats and they ought to be come fully stickered, but this does call it into question.

Makes a bit of a mockery of his 'Players Edition' as the profile is completely different!

No idea if he is or is not usingn a GM, but I'm sure pro's are also capable of lifting stickers off a sponsored bat and gluing them onto one they want to use more.

Very true, wouldn't mind getting my hands on an un-stickered pro's bat if they are doing this as well  :D

Is this a practice bat? It looks a little narrow. Either way it has a very meaty profile so I assume it belongs to him - although I don't recognise the stickers.

Joe works very closely with us at GM to get the exact bats he wants and I can guaranty this is a genuine GM as it was in for clean up last week and its just tape going across the face.
As for the Player Edition I can't comment as that's more a question for the decision makers.

Maybe it's a prototype he's using for a new version of the Six6?

Whatever it is I like it almost as much as I like watching him bat!

Whatever he is using, I will have one! The ball is flying off his bat recently. I actually do like the shape, big fan of the duck bill.

Doesn't even slightly look like tape covering something up? For one thing, bat tape is pretty transparent, would be a terrible choice for covering a big dark stamp. Pros choosing different shapes to production is hardly big news...

If you look at pictures of Root in his last test and compare it to this one dayer there is a difference in the shape of bat and edges. So to have a Players Bat that is identical is not possible given he has a couple of different shapes.
