Then don't sell it as such. Don't say one thing and do another.... It's called lying.

I have to say I do agree with this Players bat thing. GM always sold the player issue bats in the players weight & shape, I asked Jake last year to get me a players bat in pick up index 1 but GM didn't do it in that weight it was index 4 only or something g similar. To sell a bat at £600 that's nothing like what your told it is is not on. They don't advertise this is has grade of cleft or anything like that this is sold purely as a exact copy of a JR issue bat and it's just nothing like it.

The guy though in my eyes can use what he wants if he keeps scoring like he is and I would guess the guys at GM could t care less as long as it carrys there labels. After all this forum is about 0.02% of the bat buying folk and that leaves the other 99.8% who will believe what ever the shinny Morrant, PDC catalogue tells them

I just had a look on the GM Australia website and they list the Joe Root players bat as his test match bat. Maybe that explains part of it. At best though it might be a bat profile that was used by a player at some stage.

Am going to chip in here, having got my hands on one of Watto's bats I can say with reasonable confidence his GM player issue bats are identical and he has changed his shape of bat over the years while using GM, Chris Read a lad who rolls out for our club has too. But when it comes to player shapes and obtaining them I had Gary at Redback make the most amazing bat for me which was based on the Watson shape and it was massive and beautiful!!!! If not better than his original GM. Don't overlook your local bat maker when it comes to getting a bat in players shape, especially Gary at Redback cricket as he does make some amazingly good bats!!!!

"Please note that Team GM product development is a continuous process. PLAYER EDITION configurations shown are those in use by our players at the time of preparation of this Book of Cricket." from the bottom of the above link...think that covers them??

Is Redback still going?

I had one of their bats in 2008 and it was superb.

One thing that strikes me whenever I see pro bats is how simple they are. No scoops, notches, XRD edges or anything. Just plain and simple!

As far as I know Redback is still going as every club you go to in Devon you normally find a Redback cricket  bats both old and new being used by players of all ages.

All the weight reduction techniques like scooping, notches, xrd etc are for the paying customers :-) .. Pro bats made from lighter density clefts don't need any of those.

This is from a mate on Facrebook about Joe Root's gm bats...

Cricketers, Big Bat time! Although I have had a strong relationship with Gunn and Moore for many years, yesterday I was given a treat even by my standards.

I'm writing a piece for a well known Cricket mag on how you can use best practice to select a bat, and how test players contribute to the bat evolution process.

Anyway, yesterday I got gifted on of Joe Root's bats (he's gone to New balance so they had 3 going spare)

The noticable thing about Joe's bat is it always looks so wide when he bats- and I've found the reason- the handle is 1/2" longer and the blade 1/2 shorter- like a mongoose, so the bat is more compact and looks chunkier and wider.

If you look at the pic of the bat standing against the wallyou can see the extra handle length

The grain on this is incredible as you can see- it is as good as it gets., as is the ping and pickup (it's 2-11 oz and picks up about 2.8)

Anyway, excuse the badgery but interesting nonetheless.

On the handle it says JR74, which means it's the 74th bat GM made for Joe.

I also got given one of Watto's- it's very very light, big with a VERY high middle. It is 2.10 on scales with 2 grips and antiscuff so c. 2.8 real weight, surprisingfor a man of his size.

I refrained the offer for a pair of Watto's pads as they'd be knackered.
