Bargain Master!
« on: April 21, 2015, 04:58:16 PM »

After the whole eBay saga derailed my other thread somewhat, I was banking on another parcel to cheer me up a bit. It only seemed fair to give this beauty their own thread so they got all the limelight!

I bought this bat from Cricmart, who most of you will be aware of for one reason or another. They were an unkown company to me, so I was aware I was taking a risk when buying (overseas transaction and an unknown source) and I was very lucky that there wasn't any import tax to pay on my delivery.

Here she is!

The bat weighs 2lb9.375 (or 2lb9 & 3/8 if you prefer)
40mm edges and a 59mm spine with minimal concaving, to my mind there's a lot of wood in the right places!
I count 13 grains, on the whole they're fairly evenly spaced and straight. Considering this bat was less than £60 posted I'd say it was a bargain!

The stickers are pure class (but I love the master series) and the TON branding is the new embossed method. No sharpie (other brands of permanent marker are available) in sight  :D

I was very impressed with the lovely Camouflage bat cover it came with, and the Master 1000 sticker is embossed (something not present on my 5000).

Next step is to possible remove the master sticker and the edge stickers (still undecided), add an extra layer of binding to the bottom of the handle, oil, knock in and apply a scuff sheet!

I've just tapped up some old balls and she makes a lovely noise, not the tinny sound some new bats make but a nice deep woody sound on hitting the ball.

I then used a mallet and toe is dead (aren't all bats) up to where my thumb is, where the mallet came off right up to where the Master sticker is. This area isn't all middle by any means, but it's certainly a generous sweet spot  :D

I currently own 3 and am refurbing one for a teammate.
Since last season I've owned another 4 on top of these.

Considering that just covers like those cost 15 bucks the bat is a real bargain at 45.  ;)

Looks decent for the price. How's the ping and middle?

£45? This bat was £36.27 plus postage (which was about £23 from memory)  ;)

The edge stickers remain (for now)
I have taken the master sticker off and given the bat a coat of oil. I've got the look, let's just hope I bat like Sanga from now on!  :D

Is this a light, medium or heavy bat according to the supplier?

Leave the edge stickers on Cam, they look really good.

I will for now mate, we'll see how good they look (or if they've fallen off) after I've snicked off a few times though!  :-[

I wasn't sure if I wanted to take the master sticker off or not, it looked great because it was embossed, but the bat looks cleaner with it off and I can put a scuff up the the stickers without bubbles over embossed bits now so I'm happy with what I've done  :D

Cricmart is the same as cricketstoreonline.com. I think they were seperate businesses at some point but Jason must've bought 'em
