Evening all

As the saying goes "time is money". If that is true I could be a millionaire in 6 months! (Subject to an endless stream of jobs working 30 hours a day anyway...)

A fellow forumite dropped a bat into me today for a bit of TLC. Long story short, it's being collected tomorrow!

The bat arrived looking a bit like this







I came home during my lunch hour as I knew the bat was waiting. After a small amount of work I had the scuff sheet and most of the tape and residue off the face.

That was about 13.45.

Fast forward to 18.00.
I got in from work and straight away got to work on the bat.
I got it back to white willow and assessed any further repairs that I needed to carry out.

The bat has been previously repaired, so there were only a couple of cracks to seal.

I sealed the cracks, let the glue dry and gave the bat a fine sanding.

As I skipped eating at lunch time (no mean feat for a fatty!) I had a break for some dinner.
In this time I left some bat wax on the blade to work its magic.

Then for the final touches, tape, re-application of the grip and a new scuff sheet.

Here is the end result.

And last but not least, the bat is back in its slip and ready to be returned to its owner.
One side note - I'm rather taken with the SafSleeve it arrived in!



I started working on this about 13.15 and finished at 21.35. I make that 8 hours, 20 minutes start to finish, with a break to attend my day job in the middle

What stickers did the bat have and is there any way to reattach them on a bat after a refurb or do you always need new?

I just hope you're as please when you see it as you've been with the pictures.

@Chalkie the only sticker on this bat when I received it was the fireball one seen in the first couple of pictures.
I checked if it was okay to remove this before doing so.

As far as re-attaching stickers goes, I've been told Pritt Stick works, but I've never tried it personally.
I used PVA glue to re-attach stickers to the Piri Piri I recently refurbished and that went okay.
Another way I've been told works is to heat the stickers and remove them with a blade. To re-apply use PVA glue to stick them down, wrap in Cling film then apply gentle heat so it tightens round the stickers, pushing them flat and holding them in place.

It had ''New Balance" stickers on it, sourced from an online auction site.
I may get some more as this years model also carry my initials (DC 1080)

Great work on the refurb.

I do refurb work as a hobby and these days tend to leave the original stickers  and just sand around them.  I have found most stickers online are copies, take too long to arrive and don't stick. If they lift a bit of superglue fixes that. Most owners are happy with the results.

Its taken ages to source good quality scuff. I hate seeing it cracking. Got a roll of extratec now and am happy with the results.

that is interesting as PVA works by being soaked into both surfaces and when the water in the glue is absorbed the glue is set. I cannot understand how the glue could soak into plastic. It is possible that it has formed a mechanical bond. How long have the stickers be on it for and how extensively has it been used since?. Cheers.
I am yet to try 'spray mount' as a glue for this purpose but it's properties may be better suited. Thanks for the sarcasm too.

I used an orbital sander to get the wood all one colour, from there the only tool was me sanding it by hand through the a couple of grades of paper to finish it off.
