Let's not get carried away from 1 good performance from Rashid, however over the last few years of county cricket would you pick him above Ali??

I won't get a chance to see the highlights until tonight - so anyone who did see it, how well did he actually bowl?  How many loose balls, did he turn it much, was he a handful?

I don't know what all the 'unselectable' (No Swearing Please) was, but I wonder if he will be one of these guys who gets better / more confident  the more international cricket he gets?

Not a friend of Moores or Cook by the sounds of it. Funny isn't it, Farbrace is in charge and in comes Rashid. I wonder if this was something else they didn't agree on?

Unless we are going to produce slow turners I can't see England dropping Ali or playing both spinners.

So I was at the game and I thought Rashid bowled ok. There were certainly a few full tosses and long hops but not too many.

However let be honest it was pretty easy circumstances for a leg spinner to bowl in with 400 on the board and the batsmen constantly looking to attack he was always going to pick up wickets.

When has Ali ever really had the chance to bowl with that kind of backing behind him?

The way the aussies played bishoo in the first test he has to play. But then again cook clearly doesn't like him so he probably won't play.

It's a tricky one. To my mind Rashid is a more natural fit at number eight - if Moeen is going to play he should really be batting higher up the order. Agreed that not giving Rashid a go in the Caribbean is looking like a pretty daft decision now.

It depends on how you set up your team.

If you want your spinner to bowl maidens and do a holding job then Root could do it. If you want him to take wickets then Rashid might well be a better option to the right handers, but his googly makes it trickier for the lefties as well. If you attack with Rashid then one of the seamers needs to perform a holding role, bit like Watson does for Aus, just bowl a load of maidens to keep the pressure on from the other end.

Given how the aussies went after Swann, playing Rashid would make things more complicated for them but also present a few more freebies. Big difference though is England will have 5 bowlers instead of 4 so simply hitting one bowler out of the attack won't make as much difference.

You lose a bit on the batting side, but Ali hasn't exactly covered himself in glory in recent times - 0,58,8,58,43,1,2 = 170 runs @ 24.28. Who is to say Rashid couldn't average similar?

How does it make you feel? I don't think the batting line up looks any weaker than it did with Ali in it, and I think the bowling line up is now stronger. You have Root that can bowl a few overs with his offspin, a proper spinner in the side in Adil, rather than a batsman being placed too far down the order who also bowls a bit of spin plus four quicks. I like the balance!

More like the fact Rashid has a working googly and can beat the batsman on both edges. More chance of getting first innings wickets and knocking over tailenders.

My friend commented that Rashid looked like he didn't care during yesterdays game, something I've read on here before following the ashes tour.

There are 2 problems Rashid may have to face if he does play:

When he comes on to bowl
& the Aussie score at that moment.

Cook brought Moeen on too late against New Zealand in the first test.
If the Aussie batsman are both settled at the crease they'll look to attack Rashid and unsettle his rhythm. Will Cook then take him out the attack and be scared to use him again?

Ali has Has had plenty of chances to show what he can do its now time for Rashid.
