Playing dirty
« on: June 22, 2015, 03:06:47 PM »

It's my teams first LMS match tonight. We have a bit of a weakened team and the opposition will be a lot stronger.

So my question is, how can we win? What things can we do to level the difference in ability?

We are playing away so I can't sabotage the dressing room or turn off the hot water. Any other suggestions: ball tampering; sledging; befriending the umpire etc are welcome.

Thanks

Is this some sort of joke?

If not, you need to look at what reasons you have for playing the game. That and accept your difference in ability and take the fact that you may get well beaten like a man.

Tell them your situation and try to allow yourselves to bat first. That way the death will be quicker and you won't be running around the field collecting 4 bowls 3 times an over.

Or alternatively use it as valuable practice for future games....

It's not a joke, it's Last Man Stands where proper cricket etiquette need not apply.

No seriously, lets say it was football I might say to my team play defensively, get everyone behind the ball, double up on their playmaker, keep it to nill all and we we take any luck thats comes our way on corners and set pieces...

Are there any 'tactical' cricket ways to lessen the gulf in class??

Last year we batted first against them and got 120, then I put everybody on the boundary and they still won within 18 overs (decent effort) but last year our team was much stronger...

What on Earth have I just read?
People like you are ruining cricket!
Honestly, this and what I heard happened to a player in another team on Saturday (Knocked out by an opposition), is really starting to ask me whether or not cricket is "A gentlemans game" anymore

Run your nuts off. Make ones into two's, two's into threes. You'll be amazed at how many more runs you get this way, you'll be blowing out of your (No Swearing Please) but you'll have more runs on the board. Not many people (myself included) turn up for a hit and giggle on a Wednesday night looking to do sprinted shuttle runs.

If they're obviously much better and there is no chance of winning, I would just play normally and see it as a learning curve.

Or... Ball straight/full at their legs with slowish bowlers and stack the onside ?

Bat conservatively and hopefully have wickets in the shed and just go crazy for the last 5 overs ? With a bit of luck you could get a few hitting the fence including snicks/edges to third man area.

Love all this!! Our ECB Prem is certainly not a gentlemans league, but its tough aggressive cricket, the way it should be!
