Why do pads come in right handed and left handed versions then?
It's to do with the calf protection or the side wing , the extra protection is dependent on the dexterity of the pad.

And surely that would be compromised if you were wearing your pads the wrong way round?

There's a wing in both pads!

The only way you'd compromise the protection would be to wear wrong handed ones or to put them on upside down  ;)

No the protection is the same on either leg. It's hard without a picture but on right handed pads the calf protection is on the left side of both pads, doesn't matter which leg you wear them on.

Oh right, in that case I'm with Cam. The last two England captains are morons who wear their pads on the wrong way.

I don't think you can judge it like that, Cook's a great batsman, but that doesn't necessairly make him a good captain or pad wearer.

You can be an idiot and still be a great batsman, look at Dave Warner and Alex Hales, they look like dumb and dumber!

Couldn't agree more, Dave Warner plays the switch hit because he can't even remember if he's left or right handed!  ;)

Buckles inside and straps to outside for me.

Why?
Well a tend to buy pads with straps that fit my legs. So no overhang. So no excess to be clipped by a ball.
And
I don't want the plastic buckles on the outside because if the ball clips them they definitely will make a non pad like noise! And the finger will go up!!

at a guess - if you have 'overhang' outside the pad, there is potential for a ball to clip it and the umpire may think you got a nick??

This has happened to me, bought pads with better sized straps. Any excuse....

This is not an option for us with bodytime 'lanky beanpole', no straps are short enough for my calves, or lower leg where calf should be.

Wouldn't buckles on the outside hurt potentially if the ball truck buckle/leg - especially like plastic buckles...
