Out of five tests, England literally won two sessions the whole series. They just led to test victories both times.

The top 3 bowlers in the series all Aussies (including Johnson)

Without the usual brand of (No Swearing Please) umpiring decisions that went England's way, plus a whole day washed out in Cardiff, England would have lost that series COMFORTABLY.

Mitchell Johnson was the only "bowler" to go at over 4 an over for the series.

The others were Collingwood, Watson and Bopara who I would class as all-rounders. None particularly threatening with the ball.

He will be missed by the Aussies. He was phenomenal during the India vs Australia series prior to world cup.

I would back this up with stats if I was more clever and energetic but I'm not so I'll have to claim they'll back me up without really knowing.

But on the Anderson/Johnson thing, 12 wickets to 20 looks pretty decisive without knowing WHO those wickets were, I saw something about the percentage of anderson's wickets which are top 4 batsmen.

Johnson lost the lords test in 2009 as he couldn't hit a barn door with a banjo, I for one was delighted to see him back to sterling form in this test with cracking figures of 0-111. Hard to imagine Anderson bowling that rubbish. Wait 1-36 off 16, he must be worse than Mitch!

Even better, now starc is injured, he'll be bowled into the ground on featherbeds for the next 6 weeks.

I agree, but the only reason I agree is because england doctor and produce pitches that are slow and don't bouce. Im well aware of home advantage but I still think it's not right, and more importantly, what's cricket without abit of danger

I agree that Harris retiring is something that is good for England in this Ashes series, but poorer for cricket all round. I wouldn't dismiss Johnson so quickly though, everyone has a rough match.

Desperately bad luck for Rhino. Truly great fast bowler but a brittle body. His record was extraordinary.

Surprised that Pat Cummins has been recalled as he's hardly played any 4 day cricket since his Test debut.

I take that as he won't be playing much cricket.
I know he's done a tour of South Africa with the squad before, but Ashes exposure and experience without the high expectation of performing is great experience for a guy that will probably end up a long term stable of the team.
My though was of James Pattinson, but he is in a similar boat from memory.

Anderson averages circa 40 plus in Ashes cricket for a reason.

The Aussie batsmen of old like Hayden used to practice their golf shots on Anderson. It was hilarious to see that the cricketing giant George Bailey repeat the dose in Oz last Ashes series.

Johnson's worst series - 20 wickets to Jimmy "The Greatest of All Time" Andersons 12. Says it all really.

I seem to recall SA knocking up 2 for 600 plus to annihilate Anderson to oblivion not that long as well...IN England.

Sophia Gardens was dead in 2009 as well. So it is probably how it plays?

County watchers would be able to fill us in if this is a usual Swalec pitch?

If it is, I am staggered that Glamorgan would produce any fast bowlers at all, much less Simon Jones whom I consider the best English fast bowler since John Snow.

Pretty much a standard Swalec pitch. Michael Hogan likes it, Graham Wagg makes do, but it's basically a bore them out wicket.
Other than the two mentioned, Glammy's side is essential no more than 80mph trundlers (more like 75mph) and the odd gnarly old spinner.

I'd guess the Test match in Wales has nothing to do with David Morgan and Hugh Morris having been in influential positions in the ECB. Nothing at all.

Yep Sophia Gardens is as slow as you get on the county circuit. No life or anything much to it. Coming up:-

Lords - was the quickest of the bunch a couple of years ago but not so sure it's got much pace in it this season
Edgbaston - never been quick
Trent Bridge - swings but not quick
Oval - tennis ball bounce and has lost most of it's pace

Old Trafford would of been quick but it's not holding a test. English decks are generally flat and slow for test matches. Places like Old Trafford and the Oval a few years ago are exceptions rather than the rule.
