Michael Clarke to retire after Ashes series.
« on: August 08, 2015, 09:41:42 AM »

Reports have in Australia have stated Michael Clarke will retire after the fifth and final Test at the Oval.

Clarke's been a great player and helped guide a transitional Australian side into the future.

Clarke wasn't the same after the passing of Phillip Hughes, and had it not been the eagerness to win the Ashes in England, he probably would've retired after the World Cup.

The word "great" is really over used! Clarke was a good player but never a great

Michael Clarke is absolutely a great player. No question.

He is being kicked out be the ungrateful selectors. Pathetic.

Clarke confirmed his greatest when he scored 4 scores of 200+ in one calendar year. Not even Bradman managed that...

One of the best players of his generation but I'm hesitant to put him in the truely great category like viv sachin and Lara

For my money Clarke's great, but he's a little behind Greg Chappell and Punter Ponting

Id have him in the next lvl down from the true greats of all time but maybe if not for his injuries he could have been better as he was a decent bowler and the back seemed to affect his batting

No he won't seniorplayer. Only you will remember him for that. We may have to wait a few years before we see another quality batsmen like Clarke or ponting wearing the baggy green.

Great competitor but has looked all at sea pretty much since Hughes died which is understandable. Right decision to step down I think.

To threaten to injure another player doesn't make you great it shows your limitations

He'll be known for his batting abilities not his captaincy. Have the English forgotten the bodyline series.

Couldn't agree more, considerably better batsman than captain, although to be fair perhaps he didn't have the pool of talent to work with that previous Australian captains enjoyed.

Clarke is one of the greats in my books. I wish his back was better and he had continued to score runs. It is a shame really. The guy is a fierce competitor but overall Australia has a massive talent pool to draw from. I will miss watching him compete but team Australia already has people who want to step up.
