*shakes head* this is actually hilarious.

Atleast we managed to win a test. Who were your players that stood up when the going was tough in the last Ashes? 5-0.

Swann retired during a series so that his bowling average didn't go over 30, that is actually one of the most pathetic things I've ever seen. Also Trott............  ;)

I think you are missing my point entirely here pal.

I made no reference regarding the England performances. Please do feel free to look at my previous posts and you will see my opinion of the players you have mentioned above and also my feelings about this England team going into this Ashes series.

This topic was a debate regarding the Australian crop of players and the selection of Smith as captain, if you are going to defend your performances by comparing yourselves to a team that lost 5-0 as opposed to 3-1 (potentially 4-1) shows how deluded you are.

Please feel free to start a post on the England team and I will give you my honest opinion on what I think of them. However, I feel I have voiced this adequately enough on the current running topics.

Potentially 4 - 1 could have been 5 - 0 if England had batted first on that win the toss win the match Lords wicket.

You mean on the Lords pitch that begged for runs to be scored where England batted and bowled poorly.

Or 1-3 if Australia bowled first on the bowl first win match at Edgbaston.

You won the ashes.. Certainly don't base your results on what if's. We can all do that!!!!!!

England won at Edgebaston due to  Broads brilliance at putting the ball in the right place to ensure it moved late making it difficult to play somthing the Aussie bowlers  cannot do.

To respond to the winning of a test match. At least England have won the ashes away from home in the last 18 years or so.

Don't forget, before Trott and Swann there was Damian Martyn who did the exact same thing and retired mid-series.

Well you didn't win the toss and you didn't win the match senior player and you haven't won the last test. So it's still 3-1 regardless of your disdain for Australia. The rumour is one of your own board members asked for the pitch to be fixed, in regards to that you've only got yourselves to blame.

I disagree that winning the toss at Lords won the match. A lot of cricket had to be played after that. There was some crazy scoreboard pressure but England were well and truely pumped at Lords.

I'm pleased that some of the cricket England has played has been excellent. It would have been nice to be a win against a stronger Australian side but you can only beat who is in front of you. Some average play from both sides but it feels good to be winning tests again.

No real point belittling others, lets just hope the Oval is a spectacle with a result at the end of it but lets have 5 days of test cricket!

Oh and Smith was an obvious choice for captain, I think he will do a good job but will need to keep Warner under control

No distain only highlighting that Australia's batsman in particular regal Smith  failed to learn from there mistakes at Edgebaston coupled with their failure to respect the moving ball that seams and swings late.
