Nowhere near that figure ... It was actually 2lbs 3oz!

As for the dates, I have had reply from Nick at Grays and he thought it was around 2000, but we are waiting for Richard Gray to get back to us, as he should be able to give us a more accurate timeframe.

I've just had an email from Richard Gray who informs me that this model was introduced in 2000/2001 and was used by Atherton as well as Cullinan.

Maybe something like this could be brought back into the game as a fielding joker... A bit like the fielding ring restrictions / power plays. A fielding side has one "no power" play that when instigated means the chosen batsman has to use a bat like the one above! With bats like that no wonder the nurdle used to be the most common shot!

It's great to see how bat design has changed, and really 2000 is not so long ago.

Ah....that's a whole different thread....don't under estimate the old toothpick bats. 6's were hit before bats  were 5 inches deep :) :D

The ping on this bat was amazing. Even after so many years of not being used it felt really good off the mallet.

what I meant was back then I think most of the bats were quite light. Goochie then came along with some 3lb monster (triple ton against India) but I don't think heavy bats were common.

At least this thread shows how much bats have changed.  :)

Heavy bats date back to the late 70s early 80s. SS introduced the Jumbo in around 77/78 time, the original Slazenger V6 "chunky" was from 77 and the DF Magnum was from around 1980.

The unique thing about these Excaliburs is that they used the very best willow, were very limited in number, and that they were forged in flame. Many wanted one, but only those who could pull the blade from the very rock could wield its legendary power.

I'm sure he has a set of scales. He's asking people to guess the weight as a form of light entertainment, we're nerds around here and our social hierarchy is based around being able to guess how much a piece of wood weighs from any given picture.

Plus he's already told us the weight, which - unless he is very clever - means he has some form of measuring.
