I don't think he is short of a few quid Pete.

England players these days are rewarded real well.

still....reality says modern day sport is indeed money driven in all things.

Just for once thou I would be nice to see a major player using a small brand bat in a test. Just once and i'd be happy

You can talk of brand loyalty all you want the fact is a professional playing career is short.  All through their careers they are one bad ball away, one twist of the body in the wrong direction at the wrong time, one mis-timed slide away from a career-ending injury.  Yes, it is true that afterwards they can go on and commentate and set-up cycling teams or whatever they would like to do but and we are able to sit here, now, and condemn them for 'money-grabbing' and their 'disloyalty' but realistically it is nothing more that sound financial planning that if we, placed in their position, would likely do the same.

Players move for financial reasons all the time and often to companies like GM and GN. In South Africa Philander and Duminy moved from D&P to GM and GN respectively after being sponsored by D&P for a long time too. As has been said before, their earning lifespan is limited and thus they have to plan for the future.

Or Lewis Hamilton still driving for McLaren!
It would be nice to see them staying 'loyal' but this very rarely happens these days.
If he is being paid (for example) £250k a year and another sponsor offered to double or triple that, then I could not criticise or blame him for that!

indeed you are right, he is our best player I hope whoever he uses he continues his form cos he's our (englands) player

the cricketing gods should not be under-estimated, I remember throwing my bat in a hissy fit once and immeadiatley the bat refused to score triple hundreds in the league. Never thrown a bat again  :)

wasn't it rory mcclroy who went with Nike then couldn't hit a cows (No Swearing Please) with a banjo for 12 months???  is that right...

So does this mean GM no longer have any players on their books playing for England in the test arena (I'm assuming Lyth has had his time and will no longer play)

Harrington did the same, just after a real purple patch. Im sure he switched back. I imagine it will be bats made in same place, different stickers added.

Does the dearth of England internationalists using GM mean that I can now call my GM bat 'niche' like some kind of cricket Hipster?

Didn't we have a thread on nb a the a few weeks ago which mentioned this? I got ridiculed for suggesting it.

Will be nb or Spartan. Look forward to see what specials there is.

Not sure if any truth in this, but apparently the relationship has been sour since his GM lid broke, and Root wanted to wear a masuri.

Yes, I mentioned a week or two ago that I'd heard from a good source that Root would be using New Balance from October.

Most people said it was a load of rubbish and he wouldn't leave GM, nor would GM let him go!!

I'd doubt it, if GM made his bats I'd be surprised if they're happy to continue doing so - saying that they might not care so much, at least they'd get paid for the bats!

GM claim to make bats for all their pro players - if it has GM stickers it's a GM.
They also claim not to make for anyone else, so I think he'll be finding a new bat maker (assuming GM are being 100% honest about making all their pro's bats).

I'm sure that New Balance will have the skill to be able to copy Root's current bat?
