Gotta be honest the only GN bats that compare favourably with the kind of bats people on here have become accustomed to are the custom made ones retailers like Uzi and Vitas get hold of. Literally worlds apart from the stock off the shelf jobs. I bought an E41 Asad had made and it is an absolute cannon. It barely fitted into the bat cave of my bag it was so huge and only weighed about 2.11.  Likewise with a dynadrive he had at the same time, I agonised over which one to buy as they were such stunning bits of wood, the standard issue models I've seen of the same bats were significantly poorer. But you get what you pay for. (If you go through a good retailer such as the chaps found on the forum).

I have heard very good things about the custom made ones from Uzi and Vitas, but this doesn't mean that the "off the shelf" Gray-Nicolls bats are inferior.  That being said, it can often take quite a while to find the ones we would rate worthy of the given grades, especially in Players and above.  I remember a particular instance this year with the F18s (I really didn't rate their Test grade ones).

Still, because we do spend quite a lot of time looking through them, and handpick every single Gray-Nicolls bat we stock, it does make a difference.

I'n not meaning to be harsh on them and I' m sure the ones you hand pick are very decent but the ones I've seen that are standard LE grade and then a custom stickered up as an LE, well they were just chalk and cheese. But you really do pay a premium for them and should expect nothing less for that kind of dough. I'd personally be very disappointed if I'd spent £400 and got what they offer as a 'Test' bat, you say yourself you weren't that impressed with bats you saw in that grade so it really is hit and miss which it shouldn't be for that money.

I completely agree with you, and this is the main reason we bother to handpick them in the first place!  :)

I'm interested in the F18 500 light. There does however seem to be big discrepancies over its description. You have it listed as grade 2, but other websites have it as grade 3. Also some say mid middle and others say its a high middle. Could you let me know which is correct?

Hi mate,

Gray Nics, like many companies, don't always release the published grades of the bats, but based on our experience we think they are Grade 2. Certainly, the ones that we hand pick are - check our twitter for a photo of a similar Omega 500 Light - looks very clean and very straight, prominent grains. In terms of shape, I'd put them as a high middle - they are higher than mid for sure! It means the pick up is just a dream! Don't forget the 10% early bird discount AND free knocking in!

Don't forget, guys, this is the last week for the 10% early bird discount - deposits are needed by Friday for you to secure this saving on a new, handpicked GN bat.

I've succumbed to the pressure and placed my order for  a GN500  :D
