Buckles inside... plastic sounds more like a nick behind than a strap does

(My pads can only by worn that way)

Surely your bat passes closest to the inside of your front leg when playing??

I was taught that ball hitting plastic sounded more like a nick than ball gittinf strap hence the buckle on the inside

Just to reinforce what others have said - The days of leather straps and metal buckles usually came with overlong straps. Even cut down there was generally an inch or two sticking out from the buckle. This gave rise to the possibility of the ball flicking the loose strap-end and the sound could be enough to suggest a nick on the bat, if they were on the outside. The current style of Velcro straps (so much easier, quicker and more comfortable) generally do away with this issue as the gripping area does away with the need for straps overhanging the edge of the pad.  I tend to stick with told style of strap-end on the inside of the pads, but don't think it matters either way. The whole question seems to be a hangover from the previous era of pad straps.

What ? This thread is back from the dead ? I thought this was sorted - what I say is gospel ! Buckles outside , strap ends inside . The end . Nothing more to see here . Move along .  :D :( :D :D :D

Fat legs = buckles out
Skinny legs = buckles in

Too much lose strap to catch on each other, even when you loop it so the end is velcroed down.

I have relatively skinny calves and have never found a pair of pads when even half of the available 'opposite' velcro is actually in use.

Ok fair enough.... i just don't relate to that at all . I have skinny ( i mean proper , marathon runner , skinny ) legs , yet i do my pads up quite loose ... the tip of the strap end never reaches the end of the pad , much less have any hanging loose . Maybe I've gotten used to wearing loose pads so as not to constrict my dodgy knee /legs with crap circulation.
