Everyone arguing over Ali and Hales when we are missing another decent display from Taylor. Proving he can really cut it at this level and has again come in to bat with the side under pressure and steadied the ship. Hope it doesn't go under the radar with the selectors. Lets build the team around a class middle order (incl Ali who'd id have down at 7/8)

My selection would be:

Cook
Bell
Taylor
Root
Bairstow
Stokes
Buttler
Ali
Rashid
Broad / Finn
Anderson

Bit of flexibility there is you fancy playing Patel as another spinner or Finn as 4th seamer as Buttler can be dropped if this is the case!

Taylor didn't even get a fifty before retiring.

Stokes gets a duck.

Hales and Ali may get another go if Pakistan bowl well!

Do we keep the faith with Stokes or is this his 2nd lean patch we're seeing?

Stokes will always struggle against spin. Don't see him getting many runs on the subcontinent

The problem is that when he's not batting well, he still takes wickets with the ball!! Tough call with Finn taking wickets! But iif Stokes isn't scoring runs, there is a case for replacing him for Finn, as Finn is the stronger bowler!

at least there are some positives to take out of this, taylor batting well and bell has a few runs. however this opening spot is a worry, personally id give hales a go and see how he goes, after all would any of us leave him out of the T20 side even considering his first knock on that ended in a second ball duck? as did his domestic t20 innings, yeah i get that its a completely different form but it shows that a bad start doesnt mean his career will be like that... moeen for me just isnt an opener!! i think if stokes is still struggling them moeen is good enough to bat up the order at five or six which means space for an extra bowler and a similar balannce in the side

Pretty simple for me, bairstow keeps butler out. You have to play Finn in this form. As for opening I think hales, if your going to be opening him SA Then surly he needs some time at the crease.
