Wonder if he just got tired of using Spartan kit! Their international players are dropping like flies...

Nice to at least see him go out with a couple of wickets in the 2nd innings, hopefully one or two more to come - a highly irritating bowler from an England POV but a very talented (and quick) one nonetheless! He will be missed.

With time Joe Burns could become a top signing for them but at the moment as you said @ItsJustCricket in one of your videos it appears to be a brand in decline sadly.

Destructive bowler on his day could whack it with the bat as well! Wonder who will get the nod to replace him for the day/night test, if it was red ball probably would have been Siddle.

It's interesting how Johnson will be remembered. As the pacey bowler who burst onto the scene who later terrified batsman with 250 wickets, or as a hit and miss bowler, more known for his lack of direction and occasional hot series (don't all jump over me aussie fans, just putting forward two different perspectives). To me he never quite lived up to expectations. Had he found his inswinger and direction more often he could of probably been a great, as opposed to good. His record, I suspect, isn't too hot in Asia/England either.

I think after Englands last disaster in Aus, I commented that Johnson might not been around much in 2 years time to threaten England. Even so, this seems a bit sudden for somebody still hitting 90mph.

Would be pretty interesting to see his record outside of south Africa and Australia! Reckon his average would be 40+

I'll remember him as a foul mouthed aggressive fast bowler who gave it his all and when on song was as good as anything in the world

sadly he struggled with various things through his career as there is nothing better in cricket for me than watching a TRUE fast bowler running in and in battle with the batsmen

Everyone has already said it all!
Was very average at best when not on form.
But when he was on song, he was deadly!
Loads of pace and attitude!

Still would make most sides in the World as he has pace, and can biff it with the bat too! So excellent lower order bat and pure pace bowler to have!
Will be missed I reckon!

In the modern game where there is a distinct lack of them, he can defo be considered a "character".

That right there is why I cringe with some cricket now

I don't know if I was spoiled growing up as every series has great fast bowlers when I was growing up

He was one of few bowlers who had the pace to make Test class batsmen struggle. Fantastic to see, when on form. He is also one of few bowlers to have been the major influence on an Ashes series.
In 2015, Australia have lost Harris and now Johnson. They need their current stock of youngsters to get and stay fit - Cummins, Pattinson et al. Will Siddle finally get the nod - I feel his experience would be invaluable to the bowling unit.

Think the Harmison/Flintoff/Jones group were the sharpest for England in their day.

I heard a rumour Jonathan Trott is thinking of making a comeback.
