Rumour is they are going with just 14 contracted players for next season

Has Swann retiring and losing payments from the ECB helped mess them up this much?

I'm sure there are plenty of amateurs who would turn out if given the chance though, might be a good short term way to bolster the squad

I saw the 2nd xi play three times last year and only 3 players were retained for all three of those games, so think they're already well down that route!

Yes maybe but I'm sure there are more than 33 amateurs in Northants who'd happily play. Given no one cares about 2xi or, it appears Northants care about lvcc.. Just throw the odd one in, maybe ask for a donation to play in the lvcc to make a bit of money.

Some rich kids dad will be sad enough to pay 2k for a lvcc appearance. Not like it matter to them, i assume they'll concentrate on 2020/50'over crap

Tbh, these clubs need to be allowed to die if,they can't be ran properly. Too many admin staff, too, many teams hanging off the main side, coaches etc etc

Lvcc
50 over
2020
Women's
Girls age group
2xi
Academy

You could sack off all bar the top 3 given the financial state

The cricinfo article mentions the ECB would be not unhappy to let a couple of counties go to the wall, rather than dish out more emergency money.

im sure the ECB would love there to be less counties with out actually having to decide this themselves.

i imagine they would also bring in franchise t20 sooner.

Why does everything have to be about money?

I'll re-phrase that. Why does everything have to be about greed and self-interest?

I'm still no sure why for a season they couldn't just out out a purely amateur team in all comps and have no contracted players. Save all the wages, bonuses etc for a season or two. I'm sure the ecb wouldn't mind 2-3 years for the club to turn itself around

The ECB would much rather pay Stuart Broad an extra few hundred grand so he can act like even more of a spoilt brat.
