I moved down south four years ago, and initially I wasn't that bothered about playing league cricket anymore, as I played for a friendly playing team in Somerset, which I loved.
But ended up at a nice club,beautiful ground on the only hill in Oxfordshire ,(challow) the club was going through lots of changes though, they'd lost loads of players, even found myself bowling 17 overs the first game?? I've not bowled for 20 yrs,ha
Anyway, more players were leaving, just to be replaced by juniors who despite their over confidence in their abilities, we're just dragging the club down, they didn't pay subs or socialise etc.
So after two seasons I left.
I'd been asked to play for a team in Somerset, and was considering that, when I was asked to net for my current club
First indoor nets a little awkward, especially once they'd seen me bat,( I do hit straight, and do try to kill bowlers in their follow throughs)
But, lovely set of blokes, the youngsters were keen and polite, and some have serious ability
Two seasons in, I would never think of moving,,, when I finish playing, I will umpire/score whatever
It's proper village cricket in a stunning setting
One thing I'd say, is go for it, enjoy every bit of it
My oldest and dearest friends are all from cricket
