England vs south Africa odi series
« on: January 30, 2016, 02:36:58 PM »

Warm up game is today.

Hales and Roy gone in 20s. Along with buttler and moeen.

Morgs with a 40

Taylor has just gone passed his ton. Well batted titch.

Didn't realise billings had been dropped, he's had a decent lions tour. 89 in the last game and a few more fifties. Shame as I think he's one of our stars of the future.

Bairstow going mental. Hot 5 sixes in last 2.2 overs.

He is now on 58 off 29 balls!! He's gunning for buttlers odi spot.......

Changed i shall now continue to talk to myself.

A cameo from Jordan 33 and Willey 13 sees us get a mammoth 368 for 7 from our fifty.

South Africa to block out for the draw....... Wait his is win/lose.

Looks a bit pointless with early wickets down. Nothing in the game, might as well give up if you were an SA player.

So England win by 165 runs.

Margin seems good but SA a all out in 30 overs. So run rate was going for it!!

Which comes to our bowlers, topley Rashid and Jordan with 3 wickets each, but all went at 6 an over.

Moeen Ali went at 8.25 an over!!

Could be expensive against the proper side!!

Billings was in the odi set up as a specialist batsmen.... Even the dreaded word finisher.

He wasn't eyeballed to keep for England, hence when buttler tore his webbing, Bairstow was called up to keep without being in the squad.

Now the question is where does billings fit, as Bairstow proved today his worth as a batsmen only. It's a case of to many riches in our batting line up. But I believe billings deserves his chance.

To be fair, Billings didn't make the side last time around and I suspect atthis stage he's seen as a bit of a luxury in the ODI side, whereas in the T20 stuff he's already shown that he can become essential.  Bairstow is more of a top order player - he can build an innings as well as hit 360.

Of course, we all missed the other reason Billings didn't play - he'd been kept back in the Gulf to play for England A in their last game against Pakistan A.

Regardless who plays, seeing Bairstow bring his county batting form to international cricket is fantastic. Fingers crossed it continues in the odi series.
It is one of my favourite things in sport seeing someone initially written off (unfairly in Bairstow's case) and smashing it.
I have always preferred buttler (and still do) but no one can deny bairstow has earned his place the hard and best way.
