My Team for the first ODI would be...

Roy
Hales
Taylor
Morgan
Root
Stokes
Butler wk (Just! Would like to see Bairstow in but Buttle's ODI form in the UAE was terrific)
Ali
Woakes
Willey
Broad

That's very harsh on Rashid.

Not sure why, but I also don't see them playing Taylor and Root (unless Roy was dropped and Joe opened, which is unlikely).  I wonder if an either/or for the three spot with Ali floating between five and seven is more likely.  Allows Dilly to play and leaves them less reliant on ten overs from Moeen, who can be expensive.

Surely they won't drop Taylor, he's averaged in the 60s since the Australia ODI series!

South Africa have added giant fast bowler Marchant de Lange to their squad. I'm quite interested to see what pace he's bowling at these days. I remember seeing him debut against New Zealand a few years ago and he was rapid.

Didn't he play in the 3 day South Africa A game and got a bit of tap (I could be wrong).

De Lange is an odd one - I remember that first test too and he looked - regardless of the numbers on the speed guns - properly rapid.  Not just "it looks rapid to clubbies" but the kind of rapid that scared top pros.

He has never bowled with the same pace since, at least not that I've seen. Its interesting that he seems now to be behind Steyn, Philander, Morkel, Rabada, Morris, Abbott, Viljoen and McLaren (at least) in the test pecking order.

Just read an article regarding de Lange and his injury woes. Some experts feel his very short run up is the reason his back keeps giving out. With regards to his place within the SA ranks, it's bizarre that he's fallen away so far as he was in India as replacement for Philander. Yet against England he wasn't near the Test side.

His pace gave Brendan McCullum the hurry up, and he's never one to be intimidated.

Regardless who plays, seeing Bairstow bring his county batting form to international cricket is fantastic. Fingers crossed it continues in the odi series.
It is one of my favourite things in sport seeing someone initially written off (unfairly in Bairstow's case) and smashing it.
I have always preferred buttler (and still do) but no one can deny bairstow has earned his place the hard and best way.

No doubt he's got a lot of talent but let's be honest he was pretty pony for quite a while in England colours so you can understand why people took a lot of convincing

Surprises me how often the England team line ups and players getting dropped get leaked into the press. You would have thought the ecb would have fixed this, oh wait ecb love the press in their pockets.
Doesn't happen to any other teams

Averaged 60 odd since the Australia series and scored a hundred in the warm up game, only seems logical to drop him... :o

Maybe he was whistling in a meeting...

Maybe he was looking out a window...

Maybe they have investigated his family and they aren't the 'right' sort

For me Morgan wouldnt be in the team to fit everyone else in, but A) hes skipper and B) his stats probably prove i have no idea what im talking about.
