I'll get this out the way now, and let everyone take a dig at me on the back of itif they feel the need to do so.
As well as a fat stomach I have a fairly thick skin anyway...

@e4sby obviously has an issue with me, (and a couple of people clearly agree with him), which I don't really have a problem with. If you like me great, if you don't, I probably wouldn't like me either as I can know I can be a bit of a tit sometimes - I'll put both hands up and admit that.

As for making sarcastic comments, that is just me I'm afraid. Like it or loathe it, I'm not changing for some bloke on the interweb. If I have come across as whatever an emoji473846 I can only apologise.

I can honestly say I am not trying to be Billy big bollox (or Sammy small sack) in anything I post. I'm sorry if I have rubbed anyone up the wrong way, it was not my intention in the slightest.

I like you - you're funny and cuddly, and I bet your face goes a bit red when you're angry.

In any case - if you had rubber me up the wrong way, I'm sure I'd remember  :D

@walkingwicket37 I don't have a problem with you whatsoever, I just feel your sarcasm of late has touched on arrogance towards new members of the forum asking questions that may seem to you basic but to them they might not be. We all have to start from somewhere.

I don't expect you to change for me - just felt I had to mention it.

Chaps, take a look at the Forums Strap line...

"Love the game, share the knowledge"

Some forum members may have a greater knowledge base than others, the purpose of the forum is to share this with each other so that those that are at the start of their nerdy right of passage are better informed as they travel along the road.

Back on topic my bat too delaminated in the middle which clearly means I AM Colin Big Kahunas on here anyway 😀

Wow, seems like this has gone off topic slightly! Let me know Dave if this post isn't adhering to the topic of this thread and I'll take it down. :)

I have a few facts/theories on delamination, either told to me by people in the know, or something I've found or thought of:
  • Delamination is the lifting of the stiffer upper layer from the main body of the bat.
  • If used for a decent amount of time, then delamination should occur naturally.
  • Drier bats tend to delaminate sooner due to a few reasons - 1. Less moisture means less adhesion, as the glue which holds the fibres all together is stiffer, therefore a bit more brittle. 2. Think of water and ice, if you apply stress then remove it, the body of water will return to its normal state, while ice may fracture. So the more water present in the system, the higher the likelihood it will recover from the deformation. (ie. Heartwood lacks sap and tends to lack moisture compared to sapwood, so I've had bats which have delaminated in the heartwood and not sapwood.) I also think Dave mentioned something about not mistaking soft pressing for dryness, as drier clefts will dent more readily even if the pressing is the same.
  • L&W say that bowling machine balls damage bats, due to the lack of time to allow for the wood to 'settle'. (Also mentioned by Dave earlier that he finds it can cause delamination) It could also be down to the deformation of the ball upon impact, making the bat absorb more energy. (Not entirely sure, would have to model it) I was initially skeptical about the bola balls, but it does have some scientific sense to it.
  • Delamination happening early can be down to dryness, as mentioned in an earlier point, but can also be down to prep. Don't go full out guns blazing at the beginning, but start steady and even. Make sure you knock in the middle of your bat for a bit of time too, don't completely avoid or spend ages on it.
  • Finally, if you're knocking in a bat with a scuff on it, and it feels like it has delaminated upon knocking, don't remove the scuff, but get in contact with the batmaker/retailer. Removing the scuff may mean you void the warranty. (Happened to @smokem with his Newbury Mjolnir)

Sorry for the long post, just a bit bored and waiting for my program to finish running... :-[

Thank you for that  explanation so I was sort of right ;-) I knew I read somewhere that an anti scuff sheet didn't help matters and would make sense with my m&h solution suffering from it after having a scuff on it for such a long period of time and getting a lot of use.

Amazed how quickly all of this escalated and thank you for those who have "stuck up" for me - I am not a new member (member since 2009) buy just haven't posted a great deal in that time but have been reading the forums regularly in that time and enjoying it.
