Five wicket loss yesterday. Dropped down the order from 6 to 8 to accommodate some colt batters.
Managed 6, an improvement on two ducks previously. Played their pretty rapid bowler well but he was straight up and down with a little shape away occasionally, before nicking a feather from some absolute dross of a left armer who bowled two shocking wides that pitched halfway and were off the pitch before getting to me, then managed to pitch one up and left me so I walked as I knew id got a little one. Batting partner didn't hear but I knew id hit it and cordon definitely knew.
Got 12-4-37-1, after 6 oppo had 30/0, I had 3 maidens, then got the guy who'd belted our seamer second ball I bowled to him, and he got the guy id kept quiet for 4 overs second ball at him. Took a off one of my colts but too late to change things, 156 was not a big target, extras second highest scorer on 26...

Played today and had another comfortable Sunday win, we bowled first and the oppo got 120-9, I bowled 7 overs, 2-7, had a very attacking field of 7-2 offside field!
We chased it down in 25, our young 17 year old opener scored a nice 87*, supported by a 15 year old with a 30*

Funny old thing cricket.

Thursday Sunday side had 9 men, aswell as the wed 2nd xi only playing with 8. Reason a valid one, majority of players in those sides are juniors with exams.

Still the committee had an emergency meeting and decided to send a email out saying basically.
"Club needs help to fill this sides while regularly players take exams, anyone not willing to help risks there selection chances across all teams/days when players return from exams"

Weather right or not(caused a few snotty social media posts etc) it got Sunday side 14 possible players!!

Roll on today, 12 meet for 2 start, hours net(if wanted) then set up at 1 to be ready for toss at 1.30.

1.20 someone realises no oppo has arrived yet.
1.30 umps award us toss win.
1.55 umps start making phone calls.
2.00 we find out oppo have folded via the oppo.
2.15 umps get in touch with league secretary, who admits sending both us and the umps an email was on his to do list, but he must have forgot.

Cheers, day wasted

Lost rather shockingly today
Oppo used a awful pitch looked green on top but everything stayed low.
We tried bowling good lengths and got spanked about they bowled just short of full and 6 of our team were bowled to daisy
Cutters.
As for I bowled ok 7 overs for 20ish should have had the opener caught and bowled. But dropped an ankle high one.
Bad miss should have caught him.
Batting made a huge 0
I was one of the 6 to fall to one that barely got an inch of the floor.
But also through the gate I'm not going bat and pad together more of a pad then bat thrust. 2 in a row now
Any advice lads

Oppo won the toss and we were put in to bat, started off wobbly before one of the openers tonned up.

Came in at 7, scored 14 before a stupid run out which was my fault. Couple of boundaries which was nice and a straight drive that only went for two. 40 overs and we put 221 on the board.

They just crumbled and after 6 overs were 0-4, skipper then tried to make a game of it by letting everyone have a bowl; got two overs in of absolute filth, haha. Little bit of resistance from the middle order got them to 92ao.

Good win and a small confidence boost with the bat

Thursday - Snicked off third ball with a shocking shot.

Friday - 50 not out chasing only 91.

Sunday - 118 not out chasing 189, albeit playing well below my standard.

Lot of call offs so had three under 13s playing. We set 310 off 50, I got a first baller but 3 and 6 got 150 and 80 respectively so we were well set.
Direct hit from my usual point berth in the second over then did a village wicketkeeper switch and took two catches and two stumpings as keeper. Under 13s took four wickets and a catch between them so people who called off with weak reasons may struggle for a spot for next week! Won by 190 odd in the end.

First time batting all year pretty much, scored 26 from 74. Not too disappointed considering how little practice I've had, and a good foundation to build upon. Could've gone on to get 50, but gave my wicket away quite cheaply, and had to spend much of that 74 steadying the ship, as wickets were tumbling like dominoes. We'd have been all out for about 50, if I hadn't had dug in.
So not a good start, but far from a bad start.

Had my first net since breaking my thumb today.

It's still not anything like 100% but I've made myself available for selection next weekend. Hopefully my season gets off to a good start.

@WalkingWicket37 give it another week. From what I have seen it doesn't look better yet!

Opened the batting in only my 3rd cricket game, scored 3 off about 10 overs. Their opening bowlers were bowling 3 extras an over so i was happy to just let them give us runs! Cut one to point, didn't commit to the shot, yet another dog (No Swearing Please) innings. We were 120-9 and managed to add another 45 without loss in our 40.

Tried wicket keeping for the first time as i had a side strain and didn't fancy bowling 1st change. Didn't get any chances but took pretty much everything i could. They chased it down in about 29 overs.

All in all, a day that made me question why i bother playing cricket.

After opening for the past 4 years and getting 3 in our first game on a pudding of a pitch, the skipper moved me down 'floating' at 4 or 5 for the last two games, leaving some blockers to frustrate at the top and allowing his "better players" (not my words!) to come in later.

Long story short, 22no in a successful chase to 83 last week batting at 5 and, this week, coming in at 5 after 14 overs.  Got to 130-9, with me still in on 40no, digging in through a collapse.  From the following  8 overs, I didn't really think I had it in me (as a traditional solid opener), finished up 86no, with me contributing 46 of the 47-run final wicket partnership.  Absolutely delighted, @Vitas Cricket Jake; lots of leg side fours, including a couple clipped over mid wicket ;-) !  I have a 'who's Bradman?' balmy-esque average of 111.00 after three innings - that ain't gonna continue!

Seems the skipper's taking all the credit and I'm apparently no longer an opener!  I don;t mind though as this middle-order tonking lark is quite fun!

Sadly we lost by two wickets with 5 overs to spare; they had a former minor counties second-teamer who opened and got to his 50 when their score was 58-0.  Our opening quick got some serious tap...  Still top of the division after three  games though

Glad to hear it @jamielsn15 - you've certainly worked hard enough at it during the winter/pre season to reap some rewards :)
