After opening for the past 4 years and getting 3 in our first game on a pudding of a pitch, the skipper moved me down 'floating' at 4 or 5 for the last two games, leaving some blockers to frustrate at the top and allowing his "better players" (not my words!) to come in later.
Long story short, 22no in a successful chase to 83 last week batting at 5 and, this week, coming in at 5 after 14 overs. Got to 130-9, with me still in on 40no, digging in through a collapse. From the following 8 overs, I didn't really think I had it in me (as a traditional solid opener), finished up 86no, with me contributing 46 of the 47-run final wicket partnership. Absolutely delighted,
@Vitas Cricket Jake; lots of leg side fours, including a couple clipped over mid wicket ;-) ! I have a 'who's Bradman?' balmy-esque average of 111.00 after three innings - that ain't gonna continue!
Seems the skipper's taking all the credit and I'm apparently no longer an opener! I don;t mind though as this middle-order tonking lark is quite fun!
Sadly we lost by two wickets with 5 overs to spare; they had a former minor counties second-teamer who opened and got to his 50 when their score was 58-0. Our opening quick got some serious tap... Still top of the division after three games though
