Poor side out today, many missing and skipper did his back in drying his hair apparently.

Stand in skip won toss and inserted us.

Opening I scored a nice 73 of 56 balls, fellow opener got 47 of 51.
Nice 124 run opening partnership in around 19 overs.

We finished 270 all out,

Oppo had a few batsmen who went for it, one got 59 was dropped twice on 0 and the run out.
But evetually they was 136 all out with 11 overs remaining. Using 4 seconds team bowlers.

Full point and March to hopefully finish second i still on.

Lost our first game of the season and our first defeat since first game of last season.

Oppo won the toss and batted and were soon in trouble at 6 for 2, number 4 lead a charmed life getting edges over slips of just past gully to reach 40odd we took wickets at regular intervals and then No 9 came in who was there best bat by far and took them up to 170-9 off 45.

We had our weakest team of the season with only 3 usual batters and opened and I got off to a great start 47-0 off 8 until he does what he always does and gives it away, I must have talked to him every game and every over this season but he always gets great end quick 30-40 and then out. Next over I chipped one straight back to the bowler 50-2 after 9 soon became 80-5 off 16. Then we had a great partnership that got us to 23 to win off last 4 but we lost a couple of wickets trying to go big in one over and it cost us and we lost by 3 runs in the end. A good game as we have walked the league all season but with 5 regulars all year now either on holiday or more interested in football may be a harder last 3 games.

Had some fun in the sun this afternoon in a not too serious match. Nearly all our 1st XI were off on a stag do (which they had booked for today presumably as us 2nd XI players have a free week) so both the lad I look after and myself got drafted in to make up the numbers.

I wasn't quite aware how short we were for bowling until the skipper asks can you open from one end? Let's just say it was a bit different bowling to 1st XI cricketers who play 3 divisions higher as anything a fraction off line got despatched to the boundary and I went for 38 off my first 6 overs. Indeed after the 6th I suggested that it might be good time for a bowling change so on to bowl came my aforementioned friend who then showed me how to do it by getting a wicket in his first over. Considering some weeks he doesn't get a bowl in Div 5 and he was now bowling against the top 6 batsmen of a Div 2 side, he performed brilliantly and earned the respect of the opposition players. He finished with 1-45 off 9 overs before I returned and restored a bit of pride to my own bowling figures with a couple of wickets in my 2nd spell.

In the end they posted just over 200 and I think we made nearly 100 in reply. Unfortunately despite being able to leather the ball all around the nets @StumpsIndoorCricketNets, my batting out in the middle is showing no signs of improvement since purchasing my new bat and I departed LBW without troubling the scorers.  Still the match was played in very good spirit throughout with the opposition being a decent set of lads so enjoyed my brief adventure into the world of 1st XI cricket.

Also forgot main thing off the day!

My fellow opener hit there slower bowler for massive six, and it landed slap bang in the middle of the car park doing the below damage.

Yes! Yes it is. Out of a car park full of about 25 cars, he manage to land it on his own windscreen!!
He wasn't that bothered though as first time he got some runs in a while.

No I don't blame them not chasing 355 but winning the toss and putting the home team in they had obviously come for a draw.
Our Captain was going to declare at 290 off 38 and use the extra overs to try and bowl the opposition out but one of our guys was on 87 so he changed his mind to allow him to get his first 100 it then took him the last 7 overs to score 13 runs.

Nah, it's more annoying giving your wicket away. That's why you have the draw as it beings more into the game

Learn to score runs without giving your wicket away.

You don't have to enforce a blockathon to not get out. Well unless of course your rubbish. Which going by your billions of runs scored. You are not.

You seem to merely choose not to chase to make a point that "bore draws are the future of the game"

More annoying playing with people who are only concerned with their own score rather than the team winning!!

I don't think many sides would bother chasing 350 odd if they lost a couple of early wickets. Our aim in that situation would be to get maximum batting points. I would be asking questions as to why the captain of side batting first felt the need to score that many unless it's win/lose cricket.
