Had some fun in the sun this afternoon in a not too serious match. Nearly all our 1st XI were off on a stag do (which they had booked for today presumably as us 2nd XI players have a free week) so both the lad I look after and myself got drafted in to make up the numbers.
I wasn't quite aware how short we were for bowling until the skipper asks can you open from one end? Let's just say it was a bit different bowling to 1st XI cricketers who play 3 divisions higher as anything a fraction off line got despatched to the boundary and I went for 38 off my first 6 overs. Indeed after the 6th I suggested that it might be good time for a bowling change so on to bowl came my aforementioned friend who then showed me how to do it by getting a wicket in his first over. Considering some weeks he doesn't get a bowl in Div 5 and he was now bowling against the top 6 batsmen of a Div 2 side, he performed brilliantly and earned the respect of the opposition players. He finished with 1-45 off 9 overs before I returned and restored a bit of pride to my own bowling figures with a couple of wickets in my 2nd spell.
In the end they posted just over 200 and I think we made nearly 100 in reply. Unfortunately despite being able to leather the ball all around the nets
@StumpsIndoorCricketNets, my batting out in the middle is showing no signs of improvement since purchasing my new bat and I departed LBW without troubling the scorers. Still the match was played in very good spirit throughout with the opposition being a decent set of lads so enjoyed my brief adventure into the world of 1st XI cricket.
