I personally think Warner is a much better opening option..

I would pay money to see Warner's Test debut!! If he got in, he would cause carnage

I'd like to know why Rogers doesn't get a look in, I'm sure his face doesn't fit. He's coming off the back of two top seasons in England and carried his form on in Aus, interesting one..

What about Philip Jaques? The guy scored a hundred in the last Test he played, then got injured and hasn't got a look in since.

Correct, but I don't think he's scored the same volume of runs as Rogers since being away from the side however I think both are a better bet than Hughes. I think he is a talent however he has soon been found out and natural flair can only get you so far.

Jacques is a class act and scored mountains of runs last time he played.
As is Rogers. Dont rate Hughes at all really, i think theres batsmen out there (like the above) who deserve a place far more.

i think hughes must be picked ahead of these guys as they probably see them as 'on their way out'. whereas they want hughes to play as many tests as possible and learn his game along with the other guys, siddle, hifenhaus, watson, north etc... thats the only thing i can think of as i would have had jacques!

As much as I like Hughes he is looking increasingly more like a player for the future. In a few years time I can see him as one the best batsman in Aus but not at the moment. Jacques did a great job last time but seems to have been forgotten about since his injury.

Hughes just needs time In international cricket to develop and become the worlds best opener if not batsman, the same must be said for the young Pakistani players, kemar roach and the Many young talented Indian cricketers.

The worlds best opener? He's been found out after a handful of tests, just playing more won't improve him he needs to go away learn his game and make some technical adjustments before even being considered again in my opinion. Guys like Rogers know there game inside out and consistently score runs so should be given the gig ahead of Hughes. And with the whole too old thing, surely it should be horses for courses, not building for the future.

Ponting really only inherited the team from Steve Waugh when he became captain and is now actually building his own, so Hughes seems a good option when you think of the future.

I never said Hughes is the best opener in the world, I said he could be. Let's face it, he has the potential to consistently score big runs at the top level. He shouldn't change his technique much if he is consistently scoring runs in fc cricket, however if he has found weaknesses than adjustments should be made!

He does seem to have been found out a bit at test level and I think he needs to make changes to his technique so he can come back better than before.

He had a drive at a full delivery outside off stump and edged to 2nd slip.
