Am I the only one??
« on: May 02, 2016, 05:45:59 PM »

I just don't see all the fuss about the duckbill profile! I'm not a fan at all! I prefer to have a spine running all through the blade. Surely I can't be the only one to not like them??

Can't help that it might be the latest must have thing on this forum like (and in no particular order) heartwood, high number of grains, huge edges, concaving, no concaving, off set edges, shorter blades and butterfly stained bats.

Wonder what ll be next?

Duckbills are not new. Differen versions of duckbills existed for long time.

I've scored runs using bats with a spine through the toe, I've also scored runs with duckbill profiled bats.

To my mind the duckbill shape only makes the pickup better, it doesn't have any noticeable affect (that I've noticed) on performance or durability.

100per cent not a fan of em
To me it's just not practical for the wickets I play on or the couple of shots I play

My personal experience with duckbill is that a duckbill with thick toe bat had good pickup and also pings well at bottom compared to one with spine running all way down but with thinner toe at toe edge/ thicker toe at spine.  So yes, I always prefer a duckbill if possible.

I'm not too fussed about the spine running right the way to the toe, I prefer a nice full profile with a gentle spine that fades out towards the toe so it's neither a duck bill or has the spine to the toe of the bat

May be pick up is better with duckbill profile. But i have stuck to my trusted Kook Kahuna and H4L HellFire bats whose spine runs till the toe ... It somehow works better for me !

Duckbill does help with pickup. But it is less forgiving than a full profile with thick toe or spine ending in toe. Duckbill is fine for likes of kohli who middle the ball all the time.

this, I like a bat with a lower middle and the duck bill just helps make sure it's not too bottom heavy.
Yeah and they are not a new idea been around for years

Duckbill feels bottom heavy and generates good flow/bat speed. My SM-18 is a duckbill shape and lower part hits well, in fact it pings both high and low on the blade. No issues.

I've got a few duckbil bats, the pick up on them all is better than non duckbil and toe through to spine.

Never noticed the toe being any worse than that off any other bat own mind.

Like all things in life though, if you don't like something but many many others do, why does it bother you?
Buy a bat that suits yourself and crack on, don't worry about bobs duckbill.
